buying chocolate covered raisins from bulk barn is rather satisfying

Welcome to a special edition of "Lexy's Go-To Summer Outfit" featuring, well... Lexy's go-to summer outfit. (Is it just me, or did that sentence lack a zesty ring? Shh... Just... pretend there were corresponding tunes. And show girls. And jazz hands. (lots... lots of jazz hands.)) Basically, here's a variation of what I typically throw on in the summer. (Well, minus the blazer. The blazer is thrown on for the purpose of outfit interest (ah, I'm a fraud!). And to fight off the mosquitoes. There are many pesky little creatures in my region during the evening. The blazer shields my arms from their sucking of blood. Apparently it's magical like that.)

My outfits have been feeling uninspired lately. It's essentially a patterned skirt here, a patterned shirt with similar colours there, some accessories la la la... then BAM! KAPOW! EXPLOSION! Out pops a... mediocre outfit. I don't like to play the blame game, so I won't.

On a completely unrelated note, the weather has been extremely humid and energy-sucking. I am not blaming the weather for my outfits' mediocrity these days. This is just a completely random, irrelevant fun fact that I - completely randomly, of course - decided to share.

After two years, you'd think I'd be tired of this darn puffy skirt style. But let me tell you - YOU'RE THINKING WRONG. Mwahaha. (This evil laugh is code for "Yes, I've already made two more this summer. One features sea creatures. The other features oranges. Yes. Summer heat waves are melting my brain cells only a little bit. (A lot.)")

I just stalked my old post. It was funny. This is what I wrote: "I'm somewhat addicted to making these skirts... I've made six in the past month and I bought fabric for two more! Anyways, I figure I'll get so sick of making them, that I won't make anymore." - Lexy circa 2009. Oh, well. Gosh. That was awkward. Because, you know, I never got sick of making them. So much for my Raven tendencies. You failed me, Raven Baxter. You too, Lexy circa 2009. YOU DIDN'T EVER REALLY KNOW ME, DID YOU?! Failures.

Like I said, I'm OBSESSED with this little fellow. I attached him to my necklace. They make a pretty fly couple, me thinks. Full of swagger and things.

Anyways. Not much to say (SAY WHAT?!). I was going to rant about things, but I decided not to. I was going to write about how I went to the dollar store, but, well, now you know. I went to the dollar store. (OOH STAY TUNED. I made something. It made me laugh. My sister responded with disgust. Picture a pig-like facial expression, followed by a "That's psychotic. You're not actually going to wear it... Please. Don't wear it." #honesty #siblinglove #oohintenseareyoustokedforafuturepostnow)

Have a merry evening, friends! Tomorrow I have my first in-car driver's class. As in, I'll be driving a car. If you live in my town Southern Ontario Canada the Universe EVERYONE, don't go outside tomorrow at 10:00am. I cannot be held liable for any serious injuries that may result from my driving inabilities. (I'm really not kidding. I can't drive. I fully fulfill all stereotypes involving young/ asian/ female drivers. Sorry for reinforcing them. I can't drive.)

I am sleepy, but be assured that I'm sending virtual smiles your way xxx

What is your summer "go to" outfit?

What the hell! I LOVE YOUR SKIRT ODMGJKJFGFKDJF. LOL. McDonalds skirt.

My summer to go outfit is a baggy top and denim shorts.

Did I miss the part where your hair looks blue? I swear I read everything and you never mentioned, "Hey, guys, muh hairz r gonna be bluez now." Okay, now that we got that out...

I don't think you should ever, ever give up the puffy skirts. 2009 Lexy was crazy if she thought that, haha. I wish I could sew stuff that looked like what I was trying to sew, because then I'd totally make clothes. Alas, this is not how it goes. I'm not sure what my summer go-to outfit is quite yet. I guess I'm gonna find out.

@Sarah lolz, I was thinking that, too! Alas, I definitely would have had a post along the lines of ZOMG MY HAIR IZ BLUEEE. It's just the editing or lighting or whatever. Aw, shucks. I know.

Hehehe, you always make me giggle! Have fun on your first driving lesson! I remember my very first real driving lesson with an instructor- up until that day I had only ever driven around parking lots, and I was terrified, and he wanted me to go on the highway! Cars were whizzing past me, I think I was going about 30 miles an hour, hehe. And then a bee got into the car and I started freaking out and he made me pull over. But since that first day, driving has gotten much easier and less terrifying.

I LOVE YOUR OUTFIT OMG. I can't believe you have a skirt with Grimace and the Hamburgler on it!

Lydia Armstrong said...

Um that skirt is freaking amazing. Are you kidding me?? McDonalds skirt!!!!

You never fail to make me laugh! I'll be sure to stay in at 10, but wait, if its that time in Canada, what time will it be here in England? Please don't drive over here and kill me!

LOVE your outfit today. The bow was the first thing I fell for, but I'm leaning towards the shirt now!

You have such brilliant style!

you are seriously the cutest! this outfit is gorgeous! i loooove the necklace, but i HATE mosquitos too! i went camping once and everyone actually had more than 100 bites on their legs only, it was terrible. especially when one night we had to camp near a mosquito nest because we missed the last checkpoint, woops.

i actually did jazz hands when you said it, i must've looked like a complete weirdo dancing to my computer, but it was a spur of the moment thing. (:

and clinique is frigging awesome! my skin is so problematic, pimples everywhere and when they finally diminish they like to leave little remnants called ACNE SCARS AHHHH!

Did you dye your hair or just edit the photo? It looks great. Love the skirt by the way - I mean, mcdonalds skirt, are you kidding me? I NEED IT. - so you inspired me and I think I'll try making my own skirt out of a funny fabric soon. (read: when I have money.) Good luck with your driving, I'm sure you'll do it better than me.

A mediocre outfit from Lexy? No way, sorry no can believe!! You look so cheery and beautifully quirky and colorful as always:) You really need to give me a lesson in putting bright, busy patterns together as I am forever adoring your concoctions. You're like a mad scientist in this way..hehe..and you always look flawless.

The weather has been so humid where I live, that you can seriously bite into the air. Pretty disgusting and sticky and you wouldn't believe how many people in close vicinities have the worst b.o. because of this. Quite an epidemic.

My go to summer outfit is definitely a airy, flowy sundress with ankle socks and wedges. Gotta keep cool:) Anyways, have a fantabulous week darling best of luck w/ your drivers class!!!

xx Marisa

I'm actually in love with that purse in your images. Seriously.
I mean I just finished rambling about a loved-for-minutes-on-sight and lost-because-I-didn't-buy-it bright orange purse (which reminded me of you) and seeing that, I've already moved on. Oh how fickle my fancies.

OH MY LORD!!
this post is incredible as shown by the amount of love throughout your comments!! you are incredible, it's a freaking mcdonalds skirt, i am so so so jealous! and your blazer is incredible, i adore the colour. i wish it was summer here but unfortunately it's freezing which is good because i adore winter fashion, i'm useless at summer outfits i never dress up/don't know how to dress for my body type for summer it just get's too hot for layers in nz!
oh and btw what kind of camera do you use and do you edit your pictures at all? i just love the bold colours.
much love,

So since I love how you wear all these insane bright colors and fun patterns, I'm going to ask your advice. We just got this really awesome fabric at work, the whole line is great, but my favorite one is fuchsia with like all these small different colored triangles on it. I love it, but I can't think of what to make with it. What would YOU make out of that?? I really want to do like a slouchy tank, but it's a quilting cotton so I don't think it would have the right drape. I'm thinking maybe a romper.

Anyhow, your summer go to outfit is not boring in the slightest. I would say mine is probably a floral 90s minidress, worn with boots and a slouchy sweater or beat up jean jacket. Yeah, we don't have much summer in Seattle, since that plus tights is basically what I wear the rest of the year.

the mcdonalds print is ridiciously awesome. I like the explosion of colour. I can't drive either (now I don't feel so alone). Driving and me just don't mix, I had to have my mother steer for me my first stab at it and she was in the passenger seat. I'm horrible.
