17.8.11

it's fun to bike in the rain.

Coming home from vacations? Yeah, it's no fun. You re-enter your mundane life. Your mundane life that is filled with rooms left messier than you remembered leaving them (so disappointing), and days left boring-er than you recalled (ughhh), and cell phones left… somewhere that you can't seem to locate (shh, don't tell my mom!) (seriously. my face will be damaged if she discovers this information…). By the way, the "you" in this case is, in fact, referring to ME. As in, I am home from vacation and oh PHOOEY, I don't like it!

However, one thing that DID make my coming-home blues all the less blue was knowing that a marvelous package would be awaiting my arrival… and it WAS. Both awaiting my arrival AND marvelous! Misikko contacted me a few weeks ago wondering if I'd like to maybe test out and review their flat iron. I hummed and I hawed. I weighed the pros and the cons. Kidding. I didn't really do any of that. As soon as I received the email, my fist pumped to the air: "YESSS" I shrieked, "I'VE MADE IT AS A BLOGGER." (Hi, I'm Lexy and I'm a total over-dramatic/ excitable dork.)

I opened the box. I heard the bells! Ding-dong! As in, LAKDJLASKJD AMAZING. It was like Christmas! But in August! HOW COOL IS THAT?! The box was filled with an array of amazing goodies. As in, hello I knew you were going to send me a straightener, but make-up and flowers and nail files? Oh my! Hint: Happy dancing was involved.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I must admit that my sibling and I are what you could call hair-straightener virgins. However, despite our lack of credentials, I will confidently say that BAM! this straightener is FABULOUS. Don't take my word for it? How about our before and after photos? From messy-bedhead-coupled-with-a-sweaty-day-spent-with-the-hair-pulled-up to va-vaaa-voom-sliiiick? Yeah. THAT'S RIGHT.

It's really quite glorious. The straightener glided down my sister's waffled hair. In went kinks then BAM! out went the kinks. Needless to say, the first word that was sputtered after this DIY magic show was "wow." I could do a play-by-play of the straightening event, but essentially consisted of variations of "wow" and "woah" and "zomgitworkzsowell!!!!!" In the midst of our childlike "we're so cool" excitement, we managed to sputter many 'pros' regarding this magical machine. And struggled with our 'cons.' In conclusion...

Pros:
- It works. Really, really well. I don't have much (read: any) experience with flat irons, but it flattened my hair. Fast. Really, really fast. This is kind of the whole point of a flat iron, so YAY.
- Heats up extremely quickly
- Different temperature settings is a snazzy touch
- Attractive

Cons:
- We couldn't figure out how to get it to curl. But we're not the most hair-saavy, so we're werkin' on it.
- Pricey

So there! You have it! This straightener is fabulous! So fabulous, in fact, that I had to indulge in some IWhipMyHairBackInForth meets Pantene Commercial-esque photos. C'mon. It's swooshy hair. I can't be held accountable for my dorkiness.

(Disney top - Thrifted $1, Skirt - Value Village/ Thrifted $7, Swooshy Hair - c/o Misikko)

Thank you Misikko for sending me their fabulous product! It is super snazzy. As my sister stated, "OMG I AM SO USING THIS! PLEASE! PLEASE! I think I'll straighten my hair the FIRST DAY of school. Yeah. Yeah I will!" Yep. That's right. This product is worthy of my sister's first day of grade 11. Obviously this speaks volumes to the gravity of our love of this straightener. (Really.) Make sure you check out Misikko and all they're products - irons! and dryers! and oils! oh my!

Have a swooshy day!
How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

hahpee mutherz dai

Hello friends and pals and mothers! Mothers? Oh, wait! LOL. Silly me. You're not my mother! I only have ONE mother! So, um, awkward enough introduction to simply say: Happy mother's day! I know that it's not technically mother's day right at this very moment in this very place... but it is in some parts of the world, so hollllla for some international reader cred. AMIRIGHT?!

Spent some time this afternoon making some little goodies for my mom. I always feel bad because I tend to combine my parents' gifts: Christmas, birthdays (they're born a day apart) and, er, mother/father's day. But not this year! Aw, I'm a golden child.

Anywhoo. I hope you're doing special things for your mumsies and/or famjam. New outfit post. SOON.
xx
What's the nicest thing you've ever done for your mom?

P.S. I don't know when I got so passé and blassé and oh so pft. But I've gotten - ahem, as the big shots say - some "press." You know. Whatever. You know me. I'm just so passé and blassé and oh so pft. GAH SCREW IT. Insert ginormous scream here! I'm like so totally famous!!!!! Check me out over at: 1) Soft Spoken - Rachael is so sweet and her blog is way like a wonderful fairyland and 2) The Fashion Turd - Holly is a serious EXPLOSION of delicious awesomeness that you'll adore instantenously. Thank you so much, ladies! Definitely check out their blogs, buds. Tataaa.

14.6.10

let's play concentration. you'll go first and i'll go second.

I guess you could say it was a typical Monday. Woke up at six am because, well, just because. Studied for a few hours. Wrote an exam. "An exam," being my final exam. Thus marking summer. And ate some reeses pieces blizzard and downloaded five hours worth of tunes.

You know, typical.

Oh, and somewhere along this not-so monumental day (UM HELLOOO SUMMER IS HERE), I decided to creep myself. AKA stalk some of my photobooth pictures. I had to go through thousands, cuz I'm so narcissistic. Jokes. I have like fifty photos from the last two years on there. I should probably take advantage of the super rad camera feature more, I reckon. Anyways, the whole point of this story is HOW COULD I NOT HAVE POSTED THESE VERY PHOTOS?!?!?!?! WOWZA...

AHHH! Do you see the joyous look that is present in all my pictures?! A Rodarte for Target dress!

You see, Canada is a silly country. We're a little behind. Like, we CANNOT watch Kell on Earth, it costs an additional $92 to SHIP a dress form from the States ($92! I can buy 13 blazers with that! Or 26 on a Value Village 50% off sale! I didn't buy the damn dress form!), annnd we don't have a Target!
Rodarte for Target? No Target? Predicament? I THINK YES. Solution? Well...

... THE FABULOUS ALISHA FROM SIX-TWENTYTWO-ONINE. (The caps were NECESSARY to emphasize her FABULOUSNESS.) I don't even think I have to say this, but I will anyways: She. Is. The. Sweetest. CHECK OUT HER BLOG. Thanks gurl! The next time you'll see this dress is, actually, on my sister in the next and final series of the Forest Nymph shoot. She loved it! (Almost dangerously. I sensed her desire to pry the dress from my very own nubby hands.)

THANKS AGAIN.

And in somewhat related fashion (fashion, ha-ha), here's some more photobooth narcissism/ quick outfit post...

Really average outfit. Hence really lame photos. Normally I love bright colours from summer (and winter. And rain. And fall. And spring.), but a lazy Sunday and rainy weather was just calling for a subdued outfit.

But sometimes subdued outfits make it fun to wear prints fearlessly. Also makes me feel rather chilled and 90s and what not and why am I always referring to the 90s?

STORY TIME:
One of the BEST COMPLIMENTS. EVER.
Old Lady (comes up from behind with massive shopping cart of Value Village goods) (Please imagine an adorable old lady with equally adorable voice alongside): Oh, honey! Now, you've just GOT to tell me. Did you... PAINT those flowers on those legs?!!?! [ed note: !!!!!!!HAHHAHA!!!!] Or are they PANTY HOSE?
Me: Hahahhahaaha. Nah, they're tights!
Old Lady: Oh, well, you can never tell with these things! Where did you get them?
Me: H&M blah blah blah insert rambles.
Old Lady: Wow! They're just LOVELY. Oh, you're so young! You should be wearing this things! Hahah. (Leaves)
Me (silently): PAINT MY LEGS?!?! Can you please be my grandma?!?!?! NOW?!?!
THE END.

(Zebra Blouse - Thrifted <$1, Shorts - Value Village $3, Tights - H&M, Bangles - Assorted, Hat - Vintage $3, Shoes - Vintage)
I was also wearing this um KIND OF AMAZING VINTAGE CLONKIN SHOES. They are uber rad. Photobooth doesn't give it justice so, I'm not even going to try. THEY DESERVE PROPER RECOGNITION. So that concludes this.

OH. Wait. ONE MORE THING.

GOING TO DO A VLOG for da bloggerversary. Took extrenuous amounts of efforts to think of a rhyme (reference to pic-cha). Consequently, I suggest you ask me some questions. You know, unless you want me to ramble on high school drama and boyzzzz and zomg who broke up wit whoz < / 3333. (Just kidding. I have no knowledge regarding high school gossip. Awe MAAAN. NOW I'LL NEVER BE COOL.) But really. Ask me ANYTHING. Be creative!
(Doesn't have to be fashion related. I mean, go ahead, ask me to dish the dramzzz. Gossip Girl style, obvz. It's how I roll...)

Yeeeeeah...
:)

Happy Summer if it's, you know, summer!

:)

(Additional smiley face emphasizes HAPPINESS OF SUMMER.)

14.5.10

just because it's snowing in may.

And the cow jumped over the moon...

OH HAI GUYS. Didn't see ya there? (Aren't I a silly goose?) I guess it's maybe because you ALL HAVEN'T SEEN ME IN SO LONG. Wowza! Time has been speeding by and, well, since you last saw me I'm a changed person. No, not really. But I did venture off west, write the SATs, host a Green Fashion Show, and fail an AP exam. Huh. Fun stuff? Yes, actually, because they're all related to the FUTURE and that just makes me ridiculously ECSTATIC.

What better way to welcome me back than by not me? (Okay. That question didn't make sense, but I'm high on long week exhaustion so shhh.) I got an email sometime ago (to be honest, days and weeks are kind of a blur. Maybe because they're WHIZZING by. ha-ha?), but, ANYWAYS, I got a lovely email asking about guest blogging. Let me say that I'm not usually the most easily smitten person (okay, that's a lie), but I really was quite a lot smitten, as blog-related emails kind of make me feel like I'm a big deal, so of course I said yes!

So here it is! A lovely contribution from Pammy Rosen from Luello. Check it out and enjoy the change of post-ery. (Get it? Like, scenary? But posts? Hah? No? No.)

William Rast: Hip, Cultural Clothing

William Rast is turning out to be one of the hottest and hippest fashion lines around the world. Inspired by the edgiest biker fashion and grounded in America's rich denim heritage, the fashion line provides a truly unique viewpoint on fashion. The fashion line, created by Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala, has expanded from fashion grounded in denim to contemporary fashion including leather, outerwear, and knits.

Based in Los Angeles, California, William Rast contains a fascinating history and reveals a true partnership between Timberlake and Ayala. Take the name, "William Rast," for instance. The name is actually a combination of Justin Timberlake's grandfather's own first name and Trace Ayala's grandfather's last name. Talk about mixing American cultural history with the latest in fashion!

Don't miss out on your chance to see what William Rast is all about this upcoming summer. The label has some truly exciting fashion to offer that will leave you feeling invigorated, confidant, and ready to conquer the world.

My top five picks for this upcoming summer from William Rast include the following:
1. The Sienna Legging in Azure
The Sienna Legging is sure to turn heads this summer. This hot pair of jeans is fitted to perfection for women. The color of these jeans is striking. Not too bright, but just bright enough. These are the sort of skinny jeans that float "under the radar" while becoming the next hot item for summer. Keep an eye out for Sienna Legging William Rast jeans on sale, and you’ll be a hit wearing them out to clubs or bonfires on the beach.

2. Leather Jacket-Butter
This is truly one of my favorite items from William Rast. This jacket is sexy, yet highly sophisticated. Want to wow your interviewer for a future job? Wear this jacket, and then head out to celebrate with friends after. You'll surely get the job with this no-holds jacket for a woman who means business.

3. The Dixie Mini
Summer is meant for denim miniskirts. Why not get your denim mini from the brainchild of hip fashion for this upcoming summer? Rast's dixie mini is pure genius and will make your boyfriend jealous of your attention-grabbing sex appeal.

4. Graphic RAST Crew Tee
For guys, the graphic RAST crew tee is great for going out with the guys for a night on the town. The tee is awesome, and even greater to snag for only $55.00. Going out with your girlfriend for a night on the town? Wear this shirt, and your fashion credo will go up in her book. For women looking to amp up a guy's wardrobe, this shirt will totally do the trick. Edgy and hip, this shirt is sure to be a pleaser this summer.

5. Jake Regular Straight Upland Jeans
Another great pair of jeans for the guys. These dark denim jeans are the essence of cool confidence. You can head over to the streets to play a round of basketball, and then head out to dinner with the girlfriend in these jeans. The jeans are versatile just for you this summer.

Thanks again for contributing! Make sure you check out Luello.

I must admit that "hottest" and "hippest" aren't usually words that I'd associate my personal style to, but that's the beauty of fashion and its ability to be so diversely spread amongst so many people. These clothes definitely have that air of oh la la to them and I'm kind of envisioning the cool biker couple on their rad vespa rocking these outfits. Or maybe, you know, YOU. Hope you enjoy! Thanks again!

P.S. Regular posting SHOULD resume soon. (Not going to make promises due to busy schedules and jazz but, as a lady in a french accent would say, ve vill zeeee.)

Adorbz. Hearts for y'all. Can I get an awwww?

16.1.10

at risk of sounding supremely mainstream... you're looking like a fool with your pants on the ground.

What would the world be without quirks? As much as society pushes us to conform to one another - telling us what is beautiful, what is trendy, what is in - I think that it's the quirks, the off-beat stuff that make the world amazing. It'd be boring otherwise. Plus, they're hilar (that's cool kid talk for hilarious. GET WITH IT.). For example, when my dad gives out codes (ex. postal codes) on the phone he doesn't say the letters - he says a name corresponding to it. Point: instead of saying "The code is VLNLBG" (note: not an actual code of significance. Don't you go plotting against me. Insert evil face.), he barks at the phone, "Victor! Larry! Nigel! Bob! Greg!" Such a weird thing to do, but also funny. Um, probably one of those "youhadtobethere" stories. Because I was ROFL. (for real. I was on the floor. Laughing. And rolling? Okay, maybe not rolling.)

Pretty simple outfit. One of those "RUREADYYETZOMG?!HURRYUPLADY" outfits.

This had to be posted. Solely because I look like a bunny. If Macs had Paint (anyone know how to download Paint on a Macbook?! Send me a link?!), then I would totally draw bunny ears on me.

Headband obsession continues. This one kind of looks like a diseased holly, and I enjoy it.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Love this ring. My sister has a similar one in mint green, so I must plot a way to steal it/ wear it/ own it, without her knowledge. I ponder how this will be accomplished.

(Blazer - Value Village $7, Dress - Vintage $15, Necklace - Aldo $10, Headband - Ophelie Hats, Ring - Pretty Chic)

Special thanks to everyone who has given me awards the past few months! I'm such an ungracious awardess (you know, like "host"-ess. But not.. ?) and haven't recognized them on my blog. So to you all - THANK YOU SO MUCH. It totally makes me feel special and smile on the inside. Anyways, I thought I'd share some of my own "quirks" (slash I'm not that interesting, so I'm really pushing for these ones).

RANDOM QUIRKS YOU LIKELY DON'T CARE ABOUT 101:
- I strangely get along better and converse better with quiet people over loud people
- I get progressively boring after I meet someone. Like, I don't know what to say to you? This is awkward. I'm bored of you. You're probably bored of me. It's actually a rather unfortunate trait.
- At school dances (ha-ha, yeah. go spirit!), I often have to pretend I know the lyrics to the songs they're playing. I really need to gain knowledge about mainstream songs.
- I hate malls. Period.
- I love a good pun. Or a bad pun. Essentially all puns. Recently, my friend's jacket pocket broke and I called it a "RIP-OFF." Hahaha. Get it? I thought it was kind of hilarious. Kind of pleased with myself.
- I wish strangers would smile at me. Why are people so unfriendly these days ?
- I dislike American Apparel. I feel like I'm the only one.
- I secretly find Facebook notes incredibly fascinating. They give so much insight on people I don't even talk to. Is that weird? (Um, never mind. Don't answer that.)

Anything weird about you? A fun fact or two? What your kwurxzzzz? (aka, QUIRKS.)

Thanks so much to everyone stopping by! Big thanks to Style Fool for this supaaaa awesome featchaaaa. (Yes, I just created new blog slang). I'm so excited, thanks girl!

Happy ohmygosh-its-mid-January-already!

P.S. Nice to hear all of your thoughts on the last Haiti post. Regular posts are resuming (as you can tell), but still keep the victims on your mind.

27.12.09

clashing time

Ho-ho-ho-llo! (I'm trying to say "Hello" in a Christmas way. I mean, OOPS. Darn. I said I wouldn't use any more cheesy Christmas expressions. That was the last one. I promise.) But, I do hope that you all had a joyous Christmas time. Mine was great, thanks for asking!

I love these blue tights. I've worn them to the point where those gross little balls of fabric start showing up (you know what I'm talking about?). This time, when I wore them, these obnoxious little girls (don't get me wrong, I love children for the most part) were giving me these weird looks and un-discretely yelling "OOOOH LOOOOOK BLUUUUUEEEE" in that obnoxious child-manner. I gave them evil glares in return. I'm such a grinch. Them and this ADORABLE BOY make me think that, if I ever have kids, a little, quiet, sweet boy wouldn't be too bad.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
(Blazer - Value Village $3.50, Shirt - Value Village $6, Skirt - Value Village $2.50, Tights - H&M $5, Shoes - Mum's, Bag - Thrifted $16)

Having lots of free-time, I occasionally have the tendency of "surfing" - as the verb goes (I think it's weird)- the web for a tad too long. But oh well. I found this fantastic article featuring beautiful fashion illustrations. I got inspired and gave it my mere attempt. Emphasis on mere. Please don't make fun.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Speaking of fun (kind of, sort of, anyways...), it was fun to draw/paint this. Kind of just splattered stuff and went with the flow; I might try it again sometime. Details of such splatters..
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Finally, I have some super duper exciting news... I'm on the cover of NYLON Magazine!!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

JUST KIDDING. Fooled ya, didn't I? Well, it's not exactly NYLON, but it's still totally amazing, I'm featured on Michelle's fabulous site - Glisters and Blisters.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I'm so excited! I'm pretty much one step away from running around my house screaming of joy and smashing pinatas (no, I don't have pinatas hanging around my house. But if I did, I would smash them). Luckily, I do have some self-control. It's such a great post, including an interview (not to sound all narcissistic and "y'all should know me cuz I'm great," but, you know..) so CHECK IT OUT. Thanks again, Michelle! (Also: credit to Michelle for the "NYLON cover." I can't use Photoshop to the point where it's almost embarrassing. But I so love her skills!)

Thank you so much for stopping by!
How was your Christmas?

Enjoy the holidays!
