hey, i think you're kind of cute, do you wanna be my new best friend?

I love clothes, and fashion, and dressing up for so many reasons! One of them is that it gives you the ability to manipulate your mind into thinking something. It can allow you to ignite certain feelings and attitudes, such as confidence and enthusiasm, which is really fascinating to me. Anyways, in this outfit, I basically tricked my brain into thinking that it was summer (and you know what? Minus the snow, and ice, and cold weather, and winds, and whatever else makes "winter" winter, it was practically summer!) and everything seemed so much brighter! So props bright clothes, you made the sun shine within my heart internally (cheesy overdose was intentional, just in case you were wondering if I was some radical philosophical thinker. Obviously, I could be...). This outfit is kind of like the winter version of what I was wearing here.

Apparently when I laugh, my eyes are super small. Hail, hail to my chinky-ness (translation: Chinese-ness. I'm Asian, I'm allowed to make fun of my own eyes).

Details: sadly, these white tights are shredding up into pieces...

Oh, and I know that I don't usually post editorials/ designers' collections / etc, etc. Mostly because I'll likely find myself randomly adding fashion-y terms like, "ooh, yes, the designer's ominous view juxtaposed with the blah blah blah" and it might be a little dreadful for you all (ie WTF IS SHE TALKING ABOUT?). Okay, little intro aside, I had to post some of these works by Amy Thompson. SO AMAZING. I'll let the pictures do the talking (ha, yes, that sounds good!)...

I'd wear any of those in a heartbeat. Beautiful. More looks of hers over here.

And, finally, if any of you are die-hard Twitter followers (hail, hail!) than you may have realized some agitated tweets of mine regarding my current sewing project. Luckily, I'm practically almost done. So here's a sneak peek (because I don't know how you upload photos to Twitter. Question: how do you upload photos to Twitter?)...

I'll definitely have MUCH better photos (cough: not an-in-motion-photobooth-picture) soon, so come back soon! (Hah, I'm so sneaky, getting y'all riled up to continually visit my blog. I strategize, ladies and gents.)

Okay, sorry that this post was kind of all over the place! Um, I kind of don't have an excuse for that. Maybe my brain's not working due to the lack of school work? Hmm. Anyways, thanks so much for stopping by! :) I'll visit your blogs asap.

clashing time

Ho-ho-ho-llo! (I'm trying to say "Hello" in a Christmas way. I mean, OOPS. Darn. I said I wouldn't use any more cheesy Christmas expressions. That was the last one. I promise.) But, I do hope that you all had a joyous Christmas time. Mine was great, thanks for asking!

I love these blue tights. I've worn them to the point where those gross little balls of fabric start showing up (you know what I'm talking about?). This time, when I wore them, these obnoxious little girls (don't get me wrong, I love children for the most part) were giving me these weird looks and un-discretely yelling "OOOOH LOOOOOK BLUUUUUEEEE" in that obnoxious child-manner. I gave them evil glares in return. I'm such a grinch. Them and this ADORABLE BOY make me think that, if I ever have kids, a little, quiet, sweet boy wouldn't be too bad.

Having lots of free-time, I occasionally have the tendency of "surfing" - as the verb goes (I think it's weird)- the web for a tad too long. But oh well. I found this fantastic article featuring beautiful fashion illustrations. I got inspired and gave it my mere attempt. Emphasis on mere. Please don't make fun.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Speaking of fun (kind of, sort of, anyways...), it was fun to draw/paint this. Kind of just splattered stuff and went with the flow; I might try it again sometime. Details of such splatters..

Finally, I have some super duper exciting news... I'm on the cover of NYLON Magazine!!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

JUST KIDDING. Fooled ya, didn't I? Well, it's not exactly NYLON, but it's still totally amazing, I'm featured on Michelle's fabulous site - Glisters and Blisters.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I'm so excited! I'm pretty much one step away from running around my house screaming of joy and smashing pinatas (no, I don't have pinatas hanging around my house. But if I did, I would smash them). Luckily, I do have some self-control. It's such a great post, including an interview (not to sound all narcissistic and "y'all should know me cuz I'm great," but, you know..) so CHECK IT OUT. Thanks again, Michelle! (Also: credit to Michelle for the "NYLON cover." I can't use Photoshop to the point where it's almost embarrassing. But I so love her skills!)

Thank you so much for stopping by!
How was your Christmas?

Enjoy the holidays!

23.12.09

it's beginning to feel a lot like christmas...

... could not be any more of a cliche title. But, meh, it's true.

This is evident with not only the Christmas decor and et cetera (oh, I've so always wanted to spell it out!), but also with the on slew of Holiday parties that I have to attend (obviously, I'm just Ms. Popular, duhhh). This outfit was worn whilst partying the night away into the early morning. Um, just to make note, by "partying," I mean hanging out with my Asian family for a dinner and "into the early morning," I mean lying on the couches, half asleep, whilst watching SNL. Obviously, I'm a party animal. I mean, obviously. They don't come much crazier than me, I tell ya!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I wasn't really feeling the "skin tight sequin clubbing look," so I threw on my purple skirt over top of my dress (yes, it's purple! I don't know why the pictures make purple look blue...).

Currently loving statement necklaces just because why not?

(Blazer - Value VIllage $7, Sequin Dress - Value Village $12, Purple Skirt - DIY, Tights - H&M $5, Shoes - Mum's, Necklace - Aldo $12, Ring - Peru)

And when I'm not attending my multiple Christmas parties (which is, obviously, a very rare moment in my life, being Ms. Popular and all), I've been slaying at my parents' Christmas gifts. (Okay, well "slaying" is slightly dramatic. I've - enjoyably - completed the entire two seasons of the Rachel Zoe during such process).
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I didn't take pictures of my finished drawings (and, quite frankly, I don't plan on unwrapping my gifts for the sake of your viewing, as much as I like y'all), but here are photos of the outside of their cards. Fortunately, my parents don't have access to my blog (nor do they know what a "blog" is on that matter), so I won't be ruining any surprises!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
AWWWW. Aren't we cute children? (Note: we weren't really. My sister was super red and I was just overweight. I can post photos - that are rather humorous, in fact - if you care to have a giggle at our misfortune.)

Lastly, to all my wonderful readers:
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
slash Happy Holidays!!! I hope you all have a wonderful day spent with your family and close friends and you're all amazing and not Scrooges (hmph, I tried to think of something sly to tie "Scrooge" and how you all are not like him, but obviously I failed. I mean, no. That was really funny...).

Thank you so much for stopping by! :) If I were Santa, you'd all be my Rudolph! (Okay, here I go again with these lame Christmas-isms. I'm just going to stop talking now.)

colourful antics

This outfit got a lot of stares. Likely because I was at the mall, which is often filled with girls clad with skinny jeans, Uggs, and Hollister Tee (wow, fun stuff!). But, I think weird stares are fun. It means that you're wearing something different and unique. I encourage you all to go out there and where a weird-stares induced outfit!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I love this jacket, but the one problem is the colour: it clashes so easily with everything. But my new theory is that if you pair it with a lot of colour, the clashing-ness won't be obvious because all colour goes together? Anyways, that's my new, revolutionairy theory. BAM.

Annnnd, without the jacket...

Definitely hoping to wear this vest more in the winter. It's so fuzzy, and cozy, and fuzzy.

Oh, and I'm so excited to have reached the 150 follower mark! YAY. I seriously get so excited whenever that little number increases. Here's what I have to say to you all:
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
It was inspired by a doodle in my agenda. It was going to say "Will you be my Valentine?" But then I remembered, 1) Valentine's is a million days away and 2) I dislike Valentine's day. Therefore, I'll pretend it was inspired by my blog readers because, um, I kind of like you (muahaha, I'm so sly!). But really, I do. Thank you so much for following and commenting.

Also, I got lookbook. Posting some of my old looks and such, so please go and "hype"! I'm definitely a noob and slowly getting into it. Special thanks to Michelle for inviting me. You're kind of the best! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by and maybe commenting (do it!)! And Happy Holidays! (I can't believe Christmas is so soon. I still need to make something for my parents. Any suggestions?!)

16.12.09

Oh the weather outside is delightful, actually it's a little frightful..

I'm so excited for this post! Ahhh, there's something so magical about snow and winter and the holidays... maybe it's my good mood that makes me so excited for these wintery photos. Originally, my sister and I had planned to run in front of our house, speed-take a dozen photos, and then rush inside. But then, a few cars came whizzing by and in order to keep discretion, we tiptoed like Spy Kids into our backyard. It was actually nice out, so we had fun taking pictures. I've concluded that my body is made of steel, as we were out there for about half an hour! (I told this to my sister and she was all "steel is still cold blah blah blah" but whatever. The point is, I'm a beast. I don't get cold.)

Getting dress, I was pretending I was some sophisticated lady getting ready for a sophisticated birthday party. Obviously, this was not the case, but half the fun of life is living in pretend fabulousness! So, shhhh, please pretend that I went over to friends' house and sipped illegal bubbly champagne by a lit fire and exchanged stories. Okay?

I discovered this dress at Value Village this summer, but had yet to wear it. Whenever I slipped it on, the oversized shoulder pads made "80s go wrong!" a very feasible option. Like, everytime. But I finally found a way to wear it without screaming at the 80s (I hope). No offense, 80s.

My sibling, though clad in a winter jacket/ hat/ boots, was stuck outside for a good 30 minutes, so I promised to post a picture of her. Because she loves pictures. Of herself. A lot..
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Not to sound overly arrogantly pleased with these photos and what not, but I have to say that it was so hard to choose my favourites. Therefore - my main moral of this story - I've concluded that I'd be a complete fail at working at a fashion photoshoot, as I'd pretty much cram as many photos as I could on a fashion spread.

I hope that you are all having a wonderful holiday. Oh wow, I sounded so cliche there, but whatever. Holidays make me cheesy, so yeah. Something about the music, fake trees, and bow ties everywhere. Hmm.

I hope you all enjoyed these photos! Thank you to everyone who gave me camera suggestions - will definitely look further in them. And thank you so much for stopping by! Hope you are great and cheesy and happy and spirity!

PS. Does anyone have lookbook? I have this new infatuation with continuously checking out that site, and I'm kind of desperate to join it. Only to find out that you need to be invited. I don't know the logistics, but if you could email me an invitation code or what not, I would love you so much and make you a super star with all my nonexistent powers :) But really, could anyone invite me? (I feel like a loser who's begging to get into a party. Which is kind of the situation here..)

basically an adult

So, as I'm typing this, it will be my birthday in two hours (well, if you want to be technical, 12 hours and 12 minutes, given the exact timing of my birth. But we're not being technical..). Anyways, ZOMG I'M SOOO EXCITED, LIKEZ OMG. Except not really. I've never been one for birthdays. I don't really see anything too significant about it. Well, I guess the "Sweet 16" is supposed to be a big deal, because I can finally drive. (I say 'finally' because, as a December baby, most of my friends have been drivings for-seemingly-ever. And they all find it hilarious that I'll be able to drive.. Hmm..) But, anyways, I'm not too excited, but I guess I should be normal and pretend I am. So yay!

If you are stalkery - ahem, observent - you'll realize that the pattern of these pants are the same as the shirt I wore two posts ago...
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
... Wanna know why? It was a two piece set!! The kind of things your grandma wears! My mum found it to be hysterical that there was a matching outfit, but I think it's cool! Like, it's a 2-in-1 deal. They fit like pajamas, but I just hiked them up and belted it, and you'd never know! (I hope.)
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Oh, and in case you were wondering, it snowed! A lot actually. To the point where it might have been a snow day. But, you know, wasn't.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I have a new infatuation with baggy-ish pants that are cropped a little above the ankle. Well, I guess I can't call it an "infatuation," as these are the only pants that fit into that description. But I'd like to grab a few more. And I'm desperately seeking for some black Oxfords. Definitely on my To-Do list!

Eventhough I'm not a huge birthday person, I'm hoping to get a nice camera. As much as I love my little, pink digital camera, I'm interested in a nicer one so I can maybe alleviate my "amateaur photography" to something like "mediocre-amateaur photography"? Anyone have any suggestions for a good camera?

Thank you so much! I'm so excited because I have my last exams on Monday (yes, I'll be studying on my birthday - joy!), but then it's Christmas break! Hopefully more sewing, art projects, and DIYs coming up! What are your Christmas plans?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

walking in a winter wonderland (minus the winter, that is)

*Cringe, I hope these photos load okay. I'm experimenting with Imageshack*

I'll have you know that there's one thing that irks me about winter (well, there are a few, to be honest, but that's aside the point): when the temperature is freezing - winter coat material, that is - yet there is no snow! This just doesn't seem right. It's like Winter is only putting in a 50% effort. Little slacker, he is. I mean, if it's going to be cold, then there might as well be snow! (Possibly going to regret saying this phrase in the future, but anyways...)

So, as you can tell from this "winter-esque" pictures, there is no snow. But it is cold, trust me!

Anyways, I bring this matter of Winter because it was the annual Christmas Lunch at my school. It's one of the cheesiest days, ever, but I love Christmas, so I end up having a blast taking pictures with Santa and singing Christmas carols. Obviously, I was in a bit of the Christmas spirit whilst taken these photos.. (NOTE: Christmas tree).

I got accused of "not dressing up." In retrospect, my original plan of going full out red-and-green wouldn't have been so bad considering many came in full-on Christmas sweaters. But look, "I'm a snowflake, y'alll!" (Hence, more muted colours. I take my snowflake duties seriously, you know!)

This sweater is so amazing. The beadwork is incredible. I just can't get over it! I'm usually attracted to more "BAM POW! COLOUR IN YOUR FACE"-esque things, but I certainly fell in love with this stunna!

Layering skirts will probably be one of my, personal, winter trends..

(Sweater - Value Village $10, Skirts - Pacific Mall $7 each, Blazer - Value Village $5, Tights - DIY, Belt - Thrifted $1)

I loved reading your last comments (I always do!) - but they were really fun to read. It's funny how personalities can come through clothes and fashion! A lot of you said that I'm probably really optimistic (which I am. To the point where this might come crashing down on me in the future), so I decided it might fun to switch up and share some of the things that irk me. Because everyone's irked by a few things, no? And my outfits not as "BAM BAM. go life!" as usual :)

*Ohhhh, I'm such a pessimist.* Here are things that irk me:
1. When it's freezing cold and December, yet there is no snow.
2. Instead of saying 'cool,' guys in my grade have taken the initiative of yelling 'dirrrrrtyyyy!' instead. That doesn't even make sense.
3. How I get super excited to have a red Facebook notification, only for it to be a "[random kid you don't talk to] just took a quiz! Check it out!"
4. Stupid abbreviations. Particularly when people spell the word "what" as "wat." That doesn't even sound right! If anything, it should be "wut." But really, is that hard to add the extra "h"?
5. Examinations. That is all. (Mine are this week. Goody..)

Thanks so much for stopping by!
What irks you?
(It's great if you see the cup as being half-full kind of thing, but please do share! I won't judge you. You know there's something..)

2.12.09

i'm not shy. i just dont want to talk to you. so HAH.

How would you describe your personality? I was thinking about this, and I'm having a hard time coming up with an answer. Sometimes I'm loud, sometimes I'm quiet. Sometimes I'm chatty, sometimes I'm not. I've decided that it depends on the person I'm with. I've decided that I'm not a people person, but I'm not not a people person. It just depends on what people you are. You follow? (It made more sense in my head...)

Speaking of people, this outfit reminded me of Ugly Betty (yes, that related. Or, at least pretend it is.) Something about tweed skirts and tacky patterns. I love Ugly Betty. Is it still airing? I guess I can't say that I "love" it, if I don't follow it like a die-hard fan. But I do. Love it, that is.

Shirt and skirt from the Value Village 50% off sale, which I've been raving about like the dorky bargain hunter I am. It was awesome, okay?

(Shirt - Value Village $2.50, Skirt - Value Village $3, Tights - H&M $5, Shoes - Mum's, Jewelery - assortment, Belt - thrifted $1)

I've had some people comment about my personality, based on my clothes / pictures, which I think is totally rad of you (not to sound like a wannabe-hipster by saying both "totally" and "rad" in the same sentence). And not to sound like a narcissistic idiot that I'm hopefully not, but how would you guess my personality? (Based on my blog, I suppose). And not to ask this only to turn the tables and convince you that I'm not a narcissistic idiot, but out of genuine curiosity of how you would describe yourself, how would you describe yourself?

And for the majority of you who scroll through pictures and then potentially skim the last line, thanks so much for stopping by and possibly commenting! Comments make me ridiculously joyous in a non-normal way :) And if you could answer those questions, bonus marks (oooh!) for you!
