she's a kook

I wish I could fly. I know this is the biggest cliche of the universe, but it doesn't make it any less true. I don't know if any of you folks are familiar with Canada's Wonderland, but I recently went on Skyflyer and it was AMAZING. It's so krazy (yup, with a k! ooooh...). When I was a young 'un, I would see that ride and be all, "I'm never, ever going to go on it!" And bam! Living proof that you should never say never! (Because, you know, I went on it...) I like asking people what kind of animal they'd like to be. Me? Aw. Thanks for your inquiries. I usually go for something like "chameleon" because I like change/ am hipster like datz. But screw that persona! I'm sticking to the cliches! I WANT TO BE A BIRD AND I WANT TO FLY. Especially since I've semi-experienced the life two minutes of a bird (with straps and wires and announcements and screams but shhh.)

Sorry. That was really random. I guess jumping and flying are synonymous in my books? As in these photos reminds me of flying? No. Um. Enjoy an outfit post...

I'm obsessing over mixing the same types of prints. I.e. clashing flowers with flowers, dots with dots, et cetera. It's fun. It looks bad. But it's FUN. So hah! I guess I'm doing it because I AM BAD. What? No, seriously, Lexy. WHAT ARE YOU SAYING? I don't know. Go prints! Boooom.

I'm also obsessing over SOCKS. This is so weird because I'm so not a socks person. When I had to wear a uniform (ah, back in high school...), I would immediately kick off my socks as soon as I (and my feet alongside) entered the car. I enjoy letting my feet breathe, as opposed to being soaked in puddles of sweatbuckets. That being said, sweatbuckets are fun now! Or maybe I just I like how they (socks, that is) add an unexpected twist to the outfit. And they make me feel like a child. I like that.

And now! Another episode of "Lexy's Rambles!" *Theme song rumbles, cheesy dancing alongside doo-doo-dooo-do-dooo* (The tagline, of course, would be "Feel free to skip over!" but probably with some snazzy alliteration. Please use your imagination. Viewer/ boredom discretion is advised.)

My brain has been on vacation, but it has recently risen from its hibernation and is now continuously musing over the question of: How do you create a life with meaning? Seriously. My brain is getting obsessive with this concept and I just don’t know how to deal with it! Dear brain, I want to write to it, I don’t know how you create a life with meaning! I don’t know!

“Brain,” if you haven’t figured it out, is simply a safe way of saying “I.” Yes. I’ve been musing heavily over this idea of life and meaning. It’s the kind of thing that, I’m sure, comes with age – or maybe it never comes at all. Maybe it’s one of those things that you never know.

It scares me how quickly time passes. How quickly moments slip beneath our fingers. Memories vanish, days blur. Our time here is so short. How do we make the most of it? And even more so, how do we show that we were here in the first place? I want to leave the world making it better than it was before I came on it. But HOW?

Maybe, I sometimes think to myself, that is why fashion is so important to me. Maybe, by wearing bright colours and crazy clothing, I can (without saying a word), tell people to stop taking life so seriously, to have fun, to be individual. Maybe. (At least, that’s what I like to think.) But is that enough? How can I do more, change more?

A lot of “Hows” have been running through my head. How can I inspire others to be and do good? How do I spread happiness and hope? How do I live a life with total, utter contentment? How can I touch and influence and inspire others? How do I live with purpose? How can I be the best I can possibly be? HOW?

I want to grow as a person, but I feel so constrained in my surroundings. I want to live each day to the fullest, but I simply don’t know how. I want to be friends with unicorns, but that’s just not possible. I want to do and create and change so much, that I’m left lost and scared. How?

How do YOU create a life with meaning?

Ah, don’t you guys loving picking into the brain of a kind-of lost, silly small town 17-year-old girl…

You always get so darn philosophical, and I wish I had answers to your questions!
If you figure it out, let me know, k?

Loving the floral blazer, and your pup. Enjoy your summer, and let your brain hibernate a little more.

I love how clashing looks so good on you! i want that blouse.

aaaaaand thats how i feel all the time! I don't know what to do but i know i want to do a lot!!!

Your blog inspires me to wear more outgoing and crazy things that normally i would be afraid to wear because of what people will think. So you already affected me! If fashion is something that is important to you then i guess just start with that! The rest will just happen :)

You are great with clashing prints. I think to myself, how does this chick do this? Blows my mind.

The print mixing here is EPIC! especially since it's a warm print and a cool print, i'm in love. plus awesome socks! and I think you should just make the most being 17 in a small town, take advantage of everything in your parents' house, walk around in insane outfits, and plan an exciting adventure for after you graduate high school! At least that's what worked for me :)

Uh gee, how did you get to be SO ADORABLE?! I totally love your style; the more fun fashion is the better!

And as for all those questions, I feel the answer comes with books, not age (that totally makes sense, trust me, I'm not done yet). I remember reading somewhere about how basically after a certain amount of time, we all disappear. No one will even remember us at some point. And you know what? That isn't even sad!

Think about how much we know about historical figures. Let's say Henry XIII. You may know a lot about him because of school (you may not, but we're going to pretend you do innywho), but future generations are learning less and less about him. And soon enough, most people won't know anything about him at all! And that's okay.

When you focus on just living, instead of living a life with meaning you will in fact, (most likely) live a life with meaning! The meaning of life? It's happiness. You were meant to go out there and be happy and make people happy too! Enrich the lives of others by loving everyone and everything and just being you. I'm not saying you have to love that kid that bullied you in 2nd grade or love eating liver. What I'm saying is that when you manifest that joi de vivre, you will be living each day to the fullest.

Sorry for getting all rambly, that was just my 2 cents. I'm super glad I found your blog, you've got style girl!

I think the best thing I've been able to do is to enjoy each moment as best as I can. Sounds cliche but its true. It's easy to always be chasing after some "dream" or planning for the future without looking around at the now and appreciating all the lovely things going on around you.

Canada Wonderland freaks me out. Was there a couple of years ago and that sealed the deal on my dislike for roller coasters and rides in general.

Love your combination of prints here. The colours are...dare I say, quirky and fun fun fun.

PS- your sister is cute as a button!

I would love to fly. It's kind of my dream to fly.
This comes from a girl who has never even flown in an airplane. Seriously. But if I sprouted wings one day, I think I would be the happiest girl in the world.

You look fantabulous. I agree, mixing florals of different colours and stuff is awesome. I did it last year and loved it.

Hmmm, meaning in life. That's a tough question. BUt I guess it's doing what I'm passionate about. I hate doing what I don't like, so I do what I like. Maybe it's problematic sometimes, but life is short, why do what I hate?

When I was a little kid I was OBSESSED with flying. I actually thought that it was possible and that Fairies lived in my garden. OK, anyway. I ALWAYS wanted to fly, and remember shaking a fortune ball and asking it over and over again whether or not I could fly (it kept telling me "no"). And then I realised I had a fear of heights. And now I want to stop time.

Anywho, I realised that you use Tiny Pic. My sister rambled to me about it before and I always wandered why you could get your pictures so perfect and now I know (I kept forgeting to ask). I'm so happy now, because your pictures are awesome size and just awesome so perhaps I can finally fix up that stoopid banner of mine...

Sorry. I'm musing. Not a good place to muse and spam someone...

Aw Lexy, you always brighten my day with your vibrant and cheery ensembles. You just get it! Your color and pattern mixing is always right on. It makes me want to run out and buy a floral blazer just to mix it with my floral romper:) Hehe, how's that for consumerism!?

Your positive outlook on life will inspire and be a ray of light for others...hence creating meaning. Seriously, it's contagious!

Religion. Believing in a higher power. It fills up your life, believe you me.

I've shyed away from all that now.. I'm more agnostic than religious. But it's terrible being agnostic... I wish I was atheist, but honestly, I do believe there's something out there, but I'm not so sure that our version of Him/Her/It is correct.

I love your outfit, as usual! To me, you have a set style that doesn't change too much! Which is nice, because I know whenever I come onto your blog, I can get a dose of The Lexy. Your outfits are inspiring in the way a Picasso painting is inspiring. I think to myself "that's not the way I'd do it but you do it so well" and then I wanna do it the way you do it lololol.

Okie I need to go to-a sleepy-a. I have to wake at 8:30 am, aughh tortureee.

Love,
mimi

This is such a great mixture of prints and colours. And ah - sometimes I wake up from dream about flying and wish so much that it was true!

Gosh, you really can pull of clashing patterns + colours. You look so bright and lovely an I agree with the socks. (and your dog is just adorable)

Creating a life with meaning eh? Well, that certainly is a tough one. But I think it can be very easy if one can live in peace with oneself and treat other human beings with respect and if possible create positive change in someones life when necessary. ..........ok, bye. :')

i'll have to get back to you on that meaningful life question. but i do love everything about this look. both you and your sis look great. one day you will fly!

Funny, because I never really wished I could fly. There are so many other things you could wish for, that flying never really seemed to be that amazing to me. What is amaizng though is how you mix prints and colours without ever looking like a faux pas! And I think once you get out of high school, you begin to think of your impact on life. I've been thinking the same things...it's a phase!
