Rain, raaaain, lalalala yaaaay...

... you made dressing up fun today!

I woke up today and saw clouds. Instead of my normally pessimistic thought of "UGH" I thought "YAY!" Why? Because it was a chance to debut my new umbrella and (not-new) rainboots, of course!

I love wearing bright colours and fun patterns. I seriously think the world would be a happier place if everyone had fun with fashion; (happy) fashion is contagious! Can you imagine?

I've had these boots for a long time - a good year, at least - but I've never worn them in an outfit! Only for rainy days or mucky field trips, when I'd wear them with my uniform. So, when I saw clouds, I knew I had to centre my outfit around them! Do you guys ever do that? Centre an outfit around an accessory or article of clothing?

Close up of rings - my new favourite piece of jewelry to wear!

(L to R - Peru Market, Peru Market, Exhibition, Vintage)

These photos were so much fun to take! I know that fall is supposed to be a time for darker colours and yadda-yadda... But, c'mon... You're only young once! Enjoy the neons of the world!

I hope you guys have all had a bright and cheery weekend! Just for the head's up - I probably won't be posting all week due to the fact that I have, well, a uniform and therefore no outfit posts! (You know, unless you're craving to see my grey kilt and blue button down... Tempting, I know...)

What are your favourite colours to wear? Thanks so much for stopping by! And commenting, if you do :)

You asked... I answered!

This title almost made me laugh out loud, because it's so cheesy. I didn't want to go with the generic "Q&A" and this is my attempt at being unique. Anyways, if you didn't get that... Yay! Question and Answer time!

When did you become interested in fashion?
I like to pretend that I’ve always had an interest in fashion. Like, “yeah, I’ve always known. Ever since I loved playing with dolls, playing dress-up, and making clothes on my easy-to-sew…” But that’s probably me just being a little girl. But, let me just say that I don’t remember ever not loving clothes, art, and fashion!

Around what age did you start to dress crazy and very unique like you do now?
I think my style is very evolving. I went through this horrid phase in grade 7 where I wore all American Eagle and leggings, and pretty much what everyone else was wearing… But in grade 8, I think my style started to evolve. Believe it or not, I went through this huge boho phase and would only wear and buy browns and neutrals! But I definitely started dressing differently then and it’s progressively changing.

What or who inspired to become a fashion blogger?
I’d been reading fashion blogs for a long time; probably about six months before I even started my blog. But I never had the guts or time to start one, especially because I was wearing a uniform (as I do now) five days a week! Finally, when summer came, I was like “Well, I’ve always wanted to and I don’t have a uniform, sooooo…” And that’s the story.

Who plays the piano?
Haha. My sister. My dad and I are ex-piano players.

Favorite style icons and why?
I always have and will love the Olsen twins. I loved them when I was little (Um, The New Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley, anyone? Olsen and Olsen Agency? Two of a Kind?)…And I love how they dress now. I don’t think that I necessarily model my outfits after them, but I definitely admire their risk-taking! I also love Gossip Girl and Blair Waldorf. I love Blair Waldorf.

They used to be such cutie-patuties!

Favorite fashion blogs and why?
I read a lot of fashion blogs. The popular ones, like Sea of Shoes, Fashion Toast, The Stylish Wanderer, Karla’s Closet, Hand it over… Blogs you guys probably read too! I don’t know if they’re my favourite, but I always check them out, probably out of habit. Lala the Art Geek is hilarious, too. And Flying the Kite is always a sweet read. And I like reading your guys’ blogs, too!

Plans for the future?
New York City + Fashion = The current dream. We will see :)

One country you'd love to go and live in.
I love to travel. But to actually live in? Hmm… Probably a country in Europe, like France or Italy. There’s something really quaint about Europe. Europeans are so cute!

Favorite designers and why?
I love Rodarte, McQueen, Preen… I think they are very innovative and prove that fashion is art. And Marc Jacobs is a genius. Enough said.

Favorite food?
I love food! (I’m such a fatty!) But I’m always down for Italian – Pizza, Pasta, Ice Cream! Love it all.

What is your super-absolute favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Tough one. It always changes. But I love to eat oatmeal (but I have to be in the mood)..

Favorite article of clothing that you own?
I don’t know if I have a favourite article of clothing. I’m not too attached to my clothes (or so I like to believe). But right now I’m really into my pleather patchwork vest from Peru. I like how it can spice up an outfit and is really versatile. I've definitely worn it lots of times on this blog!

Which fashion week would you love to be a part of?
I’m down for any fashion week. Seriously, I allow you to invite me to any.

The story behind your blog name.
Haha, I actually have to think about this.
Once upon a time there was a girl name Lexy. She loved fashion and had to wear a uniform to school. She was sad. She always gets in trouble at school for breaking the dress code. This is as she always wears jewelry and bowties. The end.
And that’s how my name came about!

Attempt to take a picture of a typical bowtie on the car ride to school. Fail.

If you could have a celebs number, who would it be?
Mary-Kate Olsen, though I’d probably be too intimidated to talk to her! (Plus, I don’t think she’d be all that approachable, to be honest…)

Top five people you would love to go on a date with.
Michael Cera, Jon Heder, Obamaaaa!, Mary-Kate Olsen (Wow, I sound like such a stalker), Ellen Degenres
Note: not so much date, but meet
Note 2: This may not be possible. Ever.

Which 3 people would you want to be stuck on an island with? (famous, of course)
The three Jonas Brothers. Solely for the purpose of their 09283013 billion female stalkers/ fans who would notice them missing and ensure that we were rescued. Oh snap, I’m smart.

Are you going to put up some more diy tutorials?
Would you like more DIY tutorials? :) If so, for what? (Who’s asking the questions, now! Haha.)

What’s your favourite DIY piece of clothing?
Hmm… Good one. I have a lot of failure DIY that I don’t really wear, but then again, there’s a lot that I do like and wear. I think the DIY that I’ve made the most use out of are my puffy skirts. But the DIY I’m most proud about (though I haven’t even worn it yet!) is my denim jacket.

What fashion trend can you absolutely not stand?
I’ve never seen anyone rock the crocs. And trust me, I’ve seen a lot of crocs in my day.

What's your fashion pet peeve?
Clads of teenagers dressing the exact same. Need I say more?

What's the difference between facebook and myspace?
Myspace is, like, sooo three years ago. Haha. But really.

What is your favourite store to shop at?
Value Village, thrifting, vintage… I also like to check out the clearance at H&M and Winners… And lust over the unaffordable clothing at Urban Outfitters. (Question: why do magazines always refer to UO as affordable? Like, “[insert name] is just like us. She loves the good bargains at UO.” Uh, I wish…)

Do your friends know about your blog???
Nah, I kind of like having it to myself!

Do you prefer heels or flats?? If heels, how high of a heel would you wear??
Flats, definitely. I only wear heels for special occasions. I’m definitely very much into comfort and I lack the skills and ability to teeter on heels! But sometimes I see really pretty shoes and my first thought is always “I wish I wore heels.”

Where would you like to live in the further?
There’s many places I’d like to visit, but I don’t know if I’d like to live there! In Canada, I’d love to live in Vancouver. In America, I’d love to live in New York. And overseas, I’d love to live in Europe!

I know you wanted to be Lizzie McGuire, but who would you be now?
Oh, god. That’s a tough one. To be honest, I can’t think of anyone I’d like to be. Just myself. Hahaha.

What's a perfect day like for you?
Some kind of adventure, with a lot of laughing, friends, and family. And food. Oh, and roller coasters and amusement parks always make any day perfect!

Note: If you ever go to Toronto, you must go on the Behemoth! Any readers done so?

What movie could you watch again and again?
Little Miss Sunshine. I love it so much, it's insane. Among others, but definitely my favourite!

Who is the biggest influence in your life?

To be honest, I don’t even know. I’m influenced by many things and people – people I see, people I know, people I read about… I’m always inspired by people who aren’t afraid to be themselves and people who help others; I think that’s the best kind of people.

Thank you to everyone for asking me questions! It makes me happy, for real!
I know that I have a tendency to ramble on things people don't really care about... which is, essentially, what this entire post is. So, therefore, you must not fear as I have a quick outfit post...

This was on Tuesday, a dress down day. I always stand out, mainly because everyone is clad in skinnies and AA t-shirts. Which, you know, is awesome...? My art teacher claims that I am "Degrassi, circa 1993" so I will just leave the description at that.

(Blazer - VV $7, Shirt - California $15, Belt - H&M, Shorts - VV $3, Socks - H&M $2, Shoes - Thrifted $34)
Note: My socks are actually purple. I don't know why, but purple has a tendency to not photograph well on my camera!

Thanks so much for stopping by, of course! And to all the commenters. You are all amazing and you have no idea how much I enjoy reading them as soon as I get home from school! :) Checking out your blogs very soon.

Now, I'm switching it up and I have 2 questions for anyone out there:
1) Who knows about your blog?
2) What's the best image hosting site? As you guys can probably tell, all my pictures load really slow and I'm a tad concerned. If your answer is Photobucket, then how do I get an account? I'm always unvalid to get one and I don't know why! What are your secrets? (Wow. That's like five questions in one!)

Haha. Okay. Thank you all so much! :)

enlighten me

This post is very much in "kickin' it old school style." Remember the days when I posed next to a beige wall? Back in the day, when I was young... (I kid, I kid). Anyways, this post is very much in that style. Mainly on an account of my-sister-slash-photographer-was-grumpy-and-didn't-want-to-take-my-picture. C'mon sis... There's no "I" in "Blog Photos" but there is a, um, ... you know... anyways.

This was after a full day of field hockey/ benchwarming (Kidding. Not really.) and I had to proceed to speed-shower-and-change so I could go out for a birthday dinner for my parents. (Their birthdays are a day apart. I thought I'd share because a lot of my friends find that amusing. I don't know why.)

(Cardigan - Vintage $6, Dress - H&M $10, Skirt [underneath] - Pacific Mall $7, Tights - DIY)

As any of you fabulously observant readers may have noticed, I am constantly wearing these ripped tights. There's something about them that can transition an outfit from looking too sweet and preppy, into something a little more grungy.

(Tights - DIY, Jewelry - Assortment)

I'm a very indecisive person. I find it really hard to make decisions. Even as little as choosing the belt (UGH, they both went well with the outfit!) so I decided to compromise... Layering belts has also been one of my new things...

(Belts - Pink - H&M $Gift, Blue - Thrifted $1)

Recently, I was tagged by Anna Kadabra, Magpie Girl and Musings of a Natural Born Socialite. I've done this tag before, but fear not, I have more to say! Thanks for the tag, ladies! :)

1. My personality can lie on opposite sides of the spectrum. Literally. I can be super loud/ obnoxious / talkative. But I can also be super quiet / awkward/ untalkative. It depends on how lucky you are :) (I don't know which half is reserved for those who are deemed "lucky")
2. I wish I were witty.
3. I used to want to be Lizzie McGuire.
4. I love watching special features in a movie.
5. Since starting this blog, my time on useless sights, such as Facebook, Perez Hilton and FML, has significantly decreased. Rarely use them. Probably a good thing.
6. I can maybe wiggle my ears. I have yet to ask if they are, in fact wiggling. But there is great potential. I just discovered this recently.
7. I regularly snack on junk food. My mum's a nutritionist, so I am very discrete.
8. I lost my nano. I am currently kickin' it old school with my ancient Ipod mini. I secretly like it.
9. I love to crack my back, fingers, neck, toes, and essentially anything. It's really satisfying. I know I'm garunteed back problems.
10. I'm pretty certain I'm going to fail math and economics this year.
In grand tradition, I'm too lame to tag other people. I once again invite anyone to share 10 random facts about yourself. Seriously. I'm honestly tagging you all! (Like, it would be totally appropriate and normal to say "I was tagged by Girl with the Bow Tie, sooo...") Seriously. Do it!

I have more to share about myself... in my upcoming Q&A. Thanks to everyone who asked questions and I will post the responses in the next post or so! If you're sitting in class, daydreaming, and suddenly you can't concentrate because you have a burning desire to ask me a question (it could happen!) then do not fear! Q&A is here! (I think I'm funny.)

Ask me questions for my Q&A. I'll get back to all of them very soon!

Hope you have a good week, all! Thanks for stopping by and I'll be visiting your blogs, hopefully, ASAP. (I say hopefully because if it's soon, it means I haven't been swamped with homework! Yay!)

"My limbs hurt."

I'm too tired to be creative. So, probably one of the most unoriginal and possible lamest things ever, I am stealing a line from myself. Yes, that's right. I just tweeted (?) "my limbs hurt." For anybody observant, this is my title. Nonetheless, this is very true (the hurting limbs thing), due to the fact that I have field hockey practice after school, every day. Please do not misunderstand me. I am not athletic in any way. (Seriously. I dropped gym as soon as I could.) This whole field hockey thing is quite the debascle (I'm thinking of a word, but I can't think of it. This is the closest thing I can get to it. Debate? Maybe, but it's too boring of a word.) Basically, I am forced onto a higher/ more intense team if I want to play, but that's a whole other, boring story... Anyyyywaayyys, the point is that: I am very sorry I haven't had time to post! Between field hockey and homework and eating and sleeping, I simply do not have time! This, honestly, saddens me :(

Anyways, please forgive me and here's Sunday's outfit :)

(Dress [worn as shirt] - thrifted <$1, Belt - thrifted $1, Shorts - Value Village $3, Tights - DIY, Shoes - Mum's)

This "shirt" is actually a "mini-dress." And this "mini-dress" was actually a long dress (literally - to the floor!) before I hemmed it. It's really fun, despite kind of gaudy and medieval. I say this because it's made of this sparkly gold fabric and black velvet. I was rubbing my stomach all day. I hope that's not weird.

I like wearing this ring too. I think the best thing about it is that people compliment it, unknowing that it's really Halloween costume jewelry that I bought at Value Village for $3. It also came with this brass knuckle ring that's kind of like "BAM." It's kind of awesome to tell them that.

(Ring - Value Village $3)

My weeks and weekends are getting pretty chaotic, but I'm always reading your comments and will respond as soon as possible! You can always follow me on twitter if you're interested in, um, my life? I guess? Seriously, I love my followers :) Mostly because I feel less of an idiot documenting the random thoughts of my life on a computer screen. twitter.com/girlwithebowtie
I'm the kind of loser that doesn't get a ton of emails. I was flabergasted when I opened my email and saw that I had some regarding my blog! Seriously ecstatic. You can always contact me there, too! (Wow. I feel like such an arrogant dork...)

On the arrogant dork thing, I might as well go all the way. "*siiighhh* It feels like it was just a few posts ago (maybe because it was? I don't know) when I was celebrating my 50 followers. Here I am at 75..." (Okay, enough of that mumbo-jumbo...) I'm seriously so excited! In celebration, I am opening up a question and answer. (Actually, I am opening one because I secretly always answer questions on blogs/ facebook in my head and I think that it is fun. But let's just ignore that minor detail.) I feel like I won't get a lot, but I want to get some questions so

Please ask me any questions for some good ole' Q&A!

Have a good week everybody! I hope I can post soon and look forward to visiting all your blogs! As usual, you guys rock my purple socks off. (I say that because I just bought colourful socks and I'm kind of excited for my uniform-filled week to be over...) Tata ladies and gents!

contrastic fantastic

(Yeah, I made up the word "contrastic." I'm pretty linguistic... )

Is it just me, or does it feel like forever since my last post?! Although it's only been a few days, it feels like it's been forever. Forever since I last wore normal clothes, forever since school even began... I always think it's funny how, at the beginning of the school year, it feels like time goes by so slowly. Then, all of a sudden, it's Christmas... March Break... Summer again! I'm always afraid that that's how my life is going to feel - like a continuous cycle.

Speaking of cycles (kind of. Not a really) - fall is coming around! Well, actually, there is no visual proof of this, as the leaves have yet to change and the weather has yet to cool. But (I just realized) my blouse is in fall colours. At last, a sign of the season to come! Hurrah! Hurrah! (I'm obsessed with fall. And signs. Refer to the last post. I think that's pretty much all I talked about.)

(Cardigan - Value Village $7, Blouse - Value Village $3, Shorts - Value Village $3, Belt - Thrifted $1, Tights - DIY, Shoes - Mum's)

Oh snap. Fall colours and a bow-tie? This is everything my blog stands for. (You know. Except, not.) NOTE: I don't even know why I'm referring to this outfit as "fall colours" when it's really not. Fluorescent fall leaves? Come on! But here's a wild thought: What if the world was made out of neon colours? Like in a Dr. Seuss book? I imagine it would be quite fun.

And, is it just me? Or, when you buy things second-hand/ thrifted/ vintage, you kind of expect that no one else will have it? Well, you can imagine my surprise (a few months back) when I was browsing fashion toast's shop and found the EXACT same bracelet that I have! Needless to say, my mouth literally dropped (which, really, isn't that unusual as I am a pretty expressive person...)

(Bracelet - Value Village $3)

This is Daisy. Daisy is a dog. She likes to watch other dogs, eat cheese, and and squirm away when I approach her with open arms and a camera.
Daisy, this is reader. Reader is a seriously awesome human being. Enough said.

I hope you guys have had a good week! I'm really sorry I haven't been able to post. This is on the account of, well, my uniform (which, by the way, I always get in trouble for it. Dear teachers, get a grip. A necklace does not distract from my appearance. Nor does an unbuttoned top-button.) Thanks so much for the comments. Honestly. After a long day, it's so awesome to come home to your nice words! :) I promise I get back to all of you!

Have a good week! Um, also, speaking of weeks.. Hellooooo, New York Fashion Week! Any favourites thus far?! I'm in love with Preen's Spring 2010. I don't know why it's getting hatin'... I want it all! What are you currently lusting over? Do spill!

Fall is in the air!

There's so much I love about fall. The changing colours of the leaves, the swealtering heat cooling down, the leaves crunching beneath my ankle boots. Fashion-wise, I'm very much looking forward to fall because I can finally layer my clothes! Vests, sweaters, blazers, tights - fall is the time to do it!

The summer heat leaves very little room for layering, but this outfit was my attempt to do so, without facing the scary wrath of the sun! (Wow, I'm pretty much obsessed with my sun - been in the last two posts! Maybe it's a sign.. of something..)

(Hat - Value Village $3, Vest - Peru $17, Zebra Tank - F21 $12, Denim Skirt - Homemade, Purse - Flea Market $1)

First time wearing this hat I purchased a few months ago! How could I have forgotten about it? It's texture is awesome. Reminds me of a pink bunny rabbit. Easter bunny, perhaps?

Since layering clothes has proven to be a bit of a challenge in great heat, I've discovered a newfound adoration for layering jewelry!

Here's the homemade jean skirt that I made a week or so ago! Hope you like it. It pretty much changed completely from the original design. I'm such a fool and, once again, bought a sparse amount of fabric. Fortunately, I found some old denim and since the wash was slightly different, I reversed it. That's what the light denim is, just, you know, in case you were curious... Yeah, okay..

Heads up for the blog -- school starts tomorrow. Sadly, this means that I will return to being uniform clad and homework indosed. I'm definitely going to find time for this blog (I love blogging!), but posts are likely to be more sparse! Also, my internet has been down, so I will probably have to visit your blogs within the next week, once it doesn't keep shutting down every 20 minutes!! (I'm slightly agitated. Though content and mildly - as in very - proud that I sped wrote, uploaded pictures, and published this post in the given amount of time I have! I call it skill...)

Thanks so much for stopping by and all your comments! I seriously appreciate them! How's your first days of school been? Any funny stories? (Wouldn't mind reading them during class!)

Anyone who is interested in the skirt tutorial - CLICK HERE! (I don't know why it's so far behind!)

Mr sun-sun, Mr golden sun...

They say that September is a time to start fresh. Or maybe that's January... Well, at least in the fashion world, September's the big month. In semi-celebration of a new fashion-year (I'm totally making all this up as I go along, just by the way...) I have a new look for my blog - actual pictures! No longer leaning against a lame, beige wall. My sister and I went outside for a pretty "photoshoot" (taking amateur shots in my backyard doesn't qualify as that, surely). I'm doing it like the cool kids do! Haha. But it was actually quite fun, so I hope you guys enjoy the pictures. I debated limiting my writing for these new pictures, but I decided that I like talking to you guys. So yeah. Sorry it's boring. Thanks again for everyone who told me how to make big pictures! :) Sorry it's a little picture-heavy.

The sun and I have decided to fix our relationship, as I know it will only last a few more weeks. We have communicated, and I must embrace him for what he is. In result, I dressed sunnily.

I pretty much lack modelling skills by all means. My sister lacks directer skills. We honestly don't know what we're doing. We like to feign inspiration (seriously, we once went to a boring museum and did that for hours). Result? I am "inspired by the sun" as my sister directed...

(Blouse - Thrifted <$1, Skirt - Thrifted $5, Belt - "Pacific Mall" $10, Shoes - Keds, Hat - F21 $14)

Close-up of the patterns

Shoulder pads and huge hats are muchos fun! Admittedly, I was longing for my heart-shaped sunglasses.. Is that pathetic? Yes, probably.

My sister loves being in front of the camera. Literally. I bet that if you stalked her on facebook (please don't, that's, um, a little creepy), you'd find that she seems to pop into every good picture. Needless to say, I snapped several pictures of her and promised I would post one. I also promised I would give her credit. Behold, my 13-year-old photographer/sister. Happy, sis?

(Shirt - F21 [ahem, my ex-shirt!], shorts - old navy, belt - thrifted]

I like to pretend that I can take good photos on my little, pink digital camera. Flowers are my favourite. Please enjoy my lack of skills and refrain from insulting them :)

Hope you guys are enjoying the last of sunny weather! I know I'm ready for fall. Thanks for all the comments - if the internet holds up, I will definitely be visiting your blogs tonight! :) I will post an skirt tutorial (sorry for the delay!) - I would have had it ready, but my internet has been down all day. But soon. Comments on the photos? Or do you prefer the other ones? :)
