the sun will come out tomorrow

I would apologize for not posting in over a week but that's, like, sooo mainstream. Rather, I'll enlighten you all on the minute details of my life. I.e. I AM EMPLOYED. I have now enter the realms of adulthood. DUN DUN DUNNNN. I have acquired a job at Forever 21. I received the job on the spot, so I'd like to extend a ginormous 'thank you' to my obnoxious, ahem, unique style and inability to stop smiling/ talking in nerve-racking situations. You "quirks" have done me well. Awww cute.

My job is treating me well, aside from the fact that the hours are goofy and the mall hurts my head. Aside from that, all is well. Toronto is treating me well, as well. (How many times have I utilized the word well?! Jeez.) I find these folks far more responsive to my style, which is snazzy. (Although I have garnered the occasional, "Is that seeeeriously what you wear on a regular basis?" - new coworker.) The weather has been beautiful. It's fantastic how that works, hey? Beautiful days? Spent inside in the mall? Yeah. Oh well, shmo well.

Toronto is turning out to be a fun place. It's nice venturing out on my own. There are, of course, some things I hate about it (how rushed/ disconnected people seem, the number of smokers, et cetera). There are also, of course, some utterly wonderful things about it (I've had multiple conversations with wonderful strangers). The point is: Big city > Small town any day, mwahahah TAKE THAT HOMETOWN. (more city observations are for another post. granted.)

Starting out a job is weird. It feels like I'm the new kid in school. A lot of this whole experience is, in fact, reminiscent of being in school (minus the boring classes/ and I'm making money, chaachhhinnng!). I'm not sure what to think of this, but I'm enjoying the people, so it's good...

Anyways. I'm working in a few hours. (Until 10:30. Pm. At least. #messedupmallhours). In the meantime, I'm going to try to find a park and read for a little and maybe find a bubble tea store and perhaps I'll chat with a stranger. SO MANY POSSIBILITIES IN A CITY!!!! Ah, tehe.

I hope you all have a smashing day!

What was your first job? What is your current job? Tell me your job history!
(If, of course, you are part of the WORK FORCE. Sorry. That word gives me a kick. It feels very military-esque.)

oh gosh the mall jobs...I worked in a fancy denim boutique, Delias, PacSun. Ugh. The boutique laid me off, Delias wouldn't let me have off for my senior prom. PacSun...we were all drunk all the time so we all got fired. Oops.

Have they given you "on call" hours yet? You'll want to scratch their eyeballs out if they do. The one awesome thing about retail is that folding stuff is SO relaxing and you will literally never suffer a messy closet ever again. Also, you make friends.
If you get sick of it though, I cannot recommend a movie theater more. All you can eat popcorn, working 20 mins out of every hour (the rest of the time you can chill with the other employees or read if you sell tickets), you get to PREVIEW ALL THE MOVIES the night before they come out when they test the film AND you can get your friends in at a discount. Best. Job. Ever. Better than my grown up job even.

I love all the colors and patterns, amazing! You look super pretty. And fresh starts are always good, hope you had a good day on your new work! :D

I'm currently jobless as I'm starting an internship in LONDON in two weeks. Of which I'm totally and SUPER excited. Before that.. I worked in a clothing store (Vero Moda), snackbar, another restaurant and I made some websites. And I'm only 20, well I need some money once in a while. But the internship in London is definitely gonna one of the best!

My first real job (i.e. one where I paid taxes) is the one I'm still at. I work at Starbucks (yay, three years?) and my hours are rough. Starting several times a week at 4:15am is killer, I'll admit it. Out of most people I know, I've had the fewest jobs but I've held mine the longest. Congrats on scoring yours. (:

About your clothes: that skirt has an incredible pattern. I kind of want it right this moment, please. Haha. I look forward to hearing your city thoughts soon.

Congrats on the job, girly!! I bet you fit in at Forever 21 so well. The girls are always super stylish and friendly, so you are perfect! My first job was at Hallmark, a stupid card store. It was so.damn.boring. The candles gave me a headache, so I quit after a month. Noooo, thank you. Forever 21 sounds much more fun!

AWESOME skirt! is it too strange that I just wanna swim in that print?

congrats on your job, I hope the initial weirdness passes quickly. as far as my job is concerned, I don't even wanna go there - it's uninspiring, boring, frustrating - it just sucks. if it wasn't for some very cool colleagues, I'd probably quit a long time ago.

Congratz on getting a job at Forever 21!! You're lucky you get to work somewhere fun and stylish. :)

Love the outfit! And those shoes are total kick-ass!

Ali said...

woo, workforce! ha. actually I prefer to make my own work but we all know that doesn't pay the rent!

I seem to have racked up a lot of jobs without even noticing... my first job was at a fabric store. then I worked at an Italian restaurant with a crazy boss (while still working at the fabric store). then I worked at a hotel in a ski resort where I was a maid by morning and waitress by night. sometimes I'd serve breakfast in the morning, clean rooms before lunch and do dinner at night. then I worked at a clothes store popular with middle-aged women.
I got my current job as a design assistant for a fashion label two years ago by being an intern for a few months first. I just recently got a job at IKEA too, but I haven't started yet (it's a new store). whew! oh and I'm doing a masters in teaching so I'll be able to do that eventually too.

I want to steal your shoes !!! (In the nicest way possible :P) and I love the pleats in your skirt!

Unfortunately I've only ever earned peanuts as a babysitter and done unpaid internships (boo). I do plan to hopefully get a job which is kind enough to pay me one day...

Congrats on your job!

Sophie Frances said...

Oh the workforce! I'm a babysitter (i know cliched) but its kind of ironic because small children freak me out and i have little patience. YOu look so freaking snazzy! I wish I had a skirt that colorful. aaarrghhh! Were did you acquire such an item?

Hooray! Congrats on your new job! My first job was in a bakery. I pretty much filled canolis for like 16 hours a week. So Forever 21 sounds like waaaaay more fun!! :)

Congrats on your new job! The fruit of your labor is sweet, well maybe sometimes! :)

My first job was working for Toys R Us, and boy were everyone crazy for Harry Potter goods, after the first ever movie came out.

Hope you get some fun co-workers, the hours fly that way and feet seem to ache less.

The skirt. The blouse. Together. Awesome!

Congratulations on getting a job...on the freakin' spot. You must have charisma for days! Let me get some. lolol. Hmmm...my very 1st job was assisting my next door neighbor. She worked for Mary Kay. I got paid shit but, hey, free makeup!

I love the print on your skirt so much! My first/current job is working at chick fil a. It's pretty good. My hours aren't too long and someone gave me cake yesterday.

Ahh, that is too perfect! You're exactly the kinda person who should be workin' at Forever 21. ;) My first job was retail. Apparently, my folding skills are prime, so they had me fold shirts for 8 hours a day ... yeah, it was as boring as it sounds. ;) Have fun!

I like the sunny shades and light in your photos. Really nice outfit too.

My job history? I've worked in a library, a bookshop, in an airport news-paper-and-related-things-kiosk and... a patisserie. (patisserie is not a very good one though, gained 4 kgs in 6 months). :')

I only had one retail job when I lived in Las Vegas, but there, the malls dont close until 11 or midnight because of the whole casino/tourist culture. It was absolute torture!

My first job was pushing shopping carts at a grocery store, worst job ever. I quit after a month hehe

between this post and last, i feel like your style is getting better and better. you are all crayola-colored femme fatale right now and i'm so into it. rock on.

OMG you were in Toronto??? I was just there to visit too!! I'm loving the city! Did you see Bloor Street, or Yonge Street? Omg, crazy...shops everywhere! To be honest, I quite like the rush and the huge masses of people. Although the quiet life is good as well.

As for my job history, I had a part-time job as a sales associate for The Children's Place...which I quit after two weeks so I could go to school. Let's just say I probably have a bad rep there. XD
