lollipops make da world go round

Dear fashion,

Thank you for being an escape for this crazy thing we called life. I like you quite a bit. You are adventurous, fun, reliable, exciting, and fast-paced. You are very misjudged, but I see you for who you really are. Many people have a hard time understanding you. They shouldn't. They should have fun with you.

Therefore...
You rock,
Don't ever change.
(GUESS THE REFERENCE AND WE ARE AUTOMATICALLY BEST FRIENDS IN OUR PAST LIFE. Being childhood, that is.)

Sincerely,
Lexy

I say this essentially every time I post a tag, but it's very much the truth: I am a tag fail. But I thought I'd post this one from TheTrendyDwarf because it's fun (he made it up!) and he's my buddy. Check out his blog! He's, like, the most frequent post-er ever so it's pretty rad.

Seven things j'adore about fashion:
1. People thinking I'm a lot more interesting then I actually am when they see my outfits. Because I'm actually rather boring. But people assume otherwise. (So, yes, I'm manipulating you all. HAH.)
2. Collections that make you stop and think "WOW. Fashion is art. You can't argue with that." (Alexander McQueen was the KING of this. R.I.P.)
3. The thrift/ vintage shop experience. Well-dressed male specimens at such shops are an added bonus.
4. Spending hours being incredibly engrossed in the world of fashion, whilst desperately seeking for a way to become a part of such world.
5. Bright tights that make people take a double glance.
6. Laughing at teenagers who have, somehow, fallen onto the bandwagon of trends and look silly because of it.
7. Actually having a passion and not stuck in a phase of "whatamigoingtodowithmylife?!"

AND YOU?! WHY DO YOU LOVE FASHION?
(tell me! tell me! tell me!)

(sorry updates are on the slow-go this week - HEY, I WARNED YOU - but if you, say, follow my twitter, the common thread between this week's tweets is that I'm possibly the bitter-est tweeter ever. Hey, it's a busy week! Promise for a good outfit post this weekend. Pinky - yes, PINKY, this is getting serious! - promise. Wow, this is the longest body of words in brackets potentially ever.)

Thanks for stopping by! And sharing why you love fashion? (err, I think YES.)

3.2.10

i make me LOL.

So for those of you who read my posts, you know a little about me. For example, I like to look back at childhood (see last post). The only thing better than looking back, is LOOKING back (practically literally). I'm doing a mural for school and blah blah blah, the moral of the story is I was looking at my old stuff. SO FUNNY. But I had to share this because it seems kind of appropriate for a "Fashion Blog" (which I feel is an overused term, but whatevezz. I'm guilty of having one.)

Dear Fashionistas,
From a young age I have always loved fashion and art. I think that these pieces proves this. Meet my fashion illustrations at age 9 (ish). I think that the design aesthetic really shows how I'm a true designer. I really hope that you can see that my designs are beautiful. I want to wear them ALL. And dress every celebrity in these outfits, too. I mean, they are just so beautiful. Let them speak for themselves.
XOXO Love,
Lexy.

I don't know what's better: the mid-rift checkered top, the asymmetrical pink bow top with matching bell-bottoms, or the fire-y outfit. They're all pretty hot.

^ Oh, and do you see the squiggly legs and short arms. SO BEAUTIFUL.

I am now getting technical. Please note that the models are now interacting. I think this really illustrates my drawing skills. Not to mention the BEAUTIFUL bridesmaid dresses (I believe they were) and HAIRSTYLES (those buns MUST be on the runways this fall).

^I'd really like the dress with the swirls and the slash down the middle for Prom. Okay. Thanks.

This is my personal favourite. Since it's all Photobooth-y and reversed, I will translate for you. The left chick is "Cool Dude" (I mean, obvz. Hot pink striped shirt with some belly. Mhmm, cool.), while the far right is a "School Geek" (poor thing, I even labelled her wedgie). And the chick in the middle in simple flares, layered shirts, and a tee that says cool? Well, she's "In Between." Never made the cut, poor girl.

So, as you guys can tell, I was very talented. I think that I will be producing this outfits, ASAP. I'd really like you all to pre-order them because I know they will all be a hit. Especially my mid-driff tops.**

I was tagged by theTrendyDwarf and Diane for the Happy award (YAY! Thanks guys; it made me HAPPY. Hahaha. Okay, not pun-ny.). I know I'm a fail at responding to tags, but I thought this would be fun to list some things that make me happy. I'm pretending I'm all quirky and such and avoiding cliches, so don't think I'm heartless for not including friends and family.
1. The above stuff.
2. Cheery old people.
3. Innocent questions by little kids.
4. Value Village 50% off sales.
5. Mean girls that you can look and be like "Um, you're dumb."
6. Talking to random people you'll probably never talk to again.
7. Subway cookies.
8. Laughing at my unathleticism.
9. Going to bed late and still having energy.
10. Magazines coming in my mailbox.

There's a million other things, but I'm limited to ten. So there they are. And it's really not super significant things that make me super happy. Because otherwise that's just sad. Just clearin' the air before I get some "zomgyoursoheartless" comment.

What things make YOU happy?!
Oh, and how many of you would like to pre-order some of my age 9 fashion designs? They will go fast, I warn ya! (like, duhhh.)**

Thanks so much for stopping by! I will respond to comments this weekend.

**Because I'm quite confident that someone will NOT read my words/ is very slow (no offense) and thus think I am being serious, I am typing this to say YOU CAN LAUGH AT MY "FASHION SKETCHES." I spent about 20 minutes doing so. THEY ARE NOT REAL. Well, they are. But not from present-day. If I get a "Nice drawings xx" I will LOL. And not with you, but AT you.. My little drawings suck. I mean, no. They're beautiful...

at risk of sounding supremely mainstream... you're looking like a fool with your pants on the ground.

What would the world be without quirks? As much as society pushes us to conform to one another - telling us what is beautiful, what is trendy, what is in - I think that it's the quirks, the off-beat stuff that make the world amazing. It'd be boring otherwise. Plus, they're hilar (that's cool kid talk for hilarious. GET WITH IT.). For example, when my dad gives out codes (ex. postal codes) on the phone he doesn't say the letters - he says a name corresponding to it. Point: instead of saying "The code is VLNLBG" (note: not an actual code of significance. Don't you go plotting against me. Insert evil face.), he barks at the phone, "Victor! Larry! Nigel! Bob! Greg!" Such a weird thing to do, but also funny. Um, probably one of those "youhadtobethere" stories. Because I was ROFL. (for real. I was on the floor. Laughing. And rolling? Okay, maybe not rolling.)

Pretty simple outfit. One of those "RUREADYYETZOMG?!HURRYUPLADY" outfits.

This had to be posted. Solely because I look like a bunny. If Macs had Paint (anyone know how to download Paint on a Macbook?! Send me a link?!), then I would totally draw bunny ears on me.

Headband obsession continues. This one kind of looks like a diseased holly, and I enjoy it.

Love this ring. My sister has a similar one in mint green, so I must plot a way to steal it/ wear it/ own it, without her knowledge. I ponder how this will be accomplished.

Special thanks to everyone who has given me awards the past few months! I'm such an ungracious awardess (you know, like "host"-ess. But not.. ?) and haven't recognized them on my blog. So to you all - THANK YOU SO MUCH. It totally makes me feel special and smile on the inside. Anyways, I thought I'd share some of my own "quirks" (slash I'm not that interesting, so I'm really pushing for these ones).

RANDOM QUIRKS YOU LIKELY DON'T CARE ABOUT 101:
- I strangely get along better and converse better with quiet people over loud people
- I get progressively boring after I meet someone. Like, I don't know what to say to you? This is awkward. I'm bored of you. You're probably bored of me. It's actually a rather unfortunate trait.
- At school dances (ha-ha, yeah. go spirit!), I often have to pretend I know the lyrics to the songs they're playing. I really need to gain knowledge about mainstream songs.
- I hate malls. Period.
- I love a good pun. Or a bad pun. Essentially all puns. Recently, my friend's jacket pocket broke and I called it a "RIP-OFF." Hahaha. Get it? I thought it was kind of hilarious. Kind of pleased with myself.
- I wish strangers would smile at me. Why are people so unfriendly these days ?
- I dislike American Apparel. I feel like I'm the only one.
- I secretly find Facebook notes incredibly fascinating. They give so much insight on people I don't even talk to. Is that weird? (Um, never mind. Don't answer that.)

Anything weird about you? A fun fact or two? What your kwurxzzzz? (aka, QUIRKS.)

Thanks so much to everyone stopping by! Big thanks to Style Fool for this supaaaa awesome featchaaaa. (Yes, I just created new blog slang). I'm so excited, thanks girl!

Happy ohmygosh-its-mid-January-already!

P.S. Nice to hear all of your thoughts on the last Haiti post. Regular posts are resuming (as you can tell), but still keep the victims on your mind.

She's got an itsy-bitsy, teeny-tiny, pink polka dotted..

Hello, my name is Lexy. Seriously. I was deeply pondering about my blog (not really) and I realized, "WOW. You guys don't even know my name." So, yeah. Now you do. It's Lexy. And -

We're sorry, but we interrupt this post for some breaking news. Lexy/ Girl With the Bow Tie now has Twitter.

WHAT? Oh yeah. I do! I just got twitter. I'm such a dork with 1 follower, so please follow me @ twitter.com/girlwithebowtie. - Yeah, the stupid URL only allows me to have a certain number of letters, so if you didn't realize, with + the = withe. Comment and leave links to your twitters and I'll be happy to follow you as well! :)

Yesterday's Outfit:
Pretty simply outfit for a day shopping in Toronto. Okay, let me give you guys a word of advice. If you ever go to Toronto to shop you must go to the Kensington market. A street full of vintage/ thrift/ indie designer stores must be amazing. And it is! Seriously.

(Denim Shirt - Dress-up box, Shorts - Value Village $3, Vest - Peru $17, Belt - Dad's, Jewelery - Assortment)

(Tights - DIY, Shoes - Value Village $7)

Today's Outfit:
As promised, I have a posting of the finished pink skirt. Ta-da!

(Blazer - Vintage/ Value Village $7, Skirt - Homemade, Tights - H&M $5, Shoes - Mum's, Tank top - Mum's)

I'm very happy to have finished this skirt and therefore, jumping shots were necessary. Plus, I just like jumping...

It's a polka-dotted explosion!

Also wearing the homemade hair clip, posted a few weeks back...

(hair clip - home made)

I had a lot of random scraps from the hem of the skirt, so I decided to make a t-shirt out of it...

(Jeans - UB, Shirt - homemade)

How to make it: 1. Cut out flower shapes from fabric/ scraps in various sizes. 2. Strategically place them on a plain white tee-shirt. 3. Once happy with the layout, pin the pieces down. 4. Try not to poke the needles through your eyes out of frusturation when hand-sewing the hundreds of flowers down for hours. 5. When you're finally done, you have permission to run around your house and shout, at full volume, "I DID IT." 6. Then, you can cut your t-shirt (collar, sleeves, hem) to a desirable cut.

At first, this was a fun project. However, after I started handsewing.. it all changed. Handsewing each individual flower. EACH FLOWER.

Anyways, I'm satisfied with the outcome. I'll be posting a legit DIY-instructions (with pictures and other fun things... well, just pictures. But those are fun!) for how to make those puffy skirts very soon. So keep an eye out for that!

So, don't forget to follow me on twitter. And don't forget to leave your twitter in the URL so I can follow you as well... Oh yeah, and what do you guys think of the new header? It turned out a bit bigger than I had wanted, but oh well... I feel like I should clarify some things about it. 1) I'm supposed to be pretending how to fly (it's what I do!), but I ran out of room. So I'm just holding a bird. 2) My heart-shaped glasses are broken. It's based on a true story. Where my heart-shaped glasses are broken. Anyone know where I can buy new ones?

Thanks for the last batch of comments! Visiting your blogs very soon! :)

EDIT: Big thanks to Little Clementine for this blogger award! Check out her awesome blog here. I'm not good at passing on awards. But I think that all you commenters deserve an award, so I award you all! Seriously. You guys are awesome. :)

Stuck without my camera cord.

Being the good little blogger I am, I have remembered to take (occasional) pictures of myself in my outfits, here in Alberta, to leave my amazing readers with a worthwhile post... Being the silly little girl I am, I have forgotten to bring my camera cord and thus will not be able to post them for another week and a half. Erm, sorry.

Buuuuut, I'm excited to have been tagged/ awarded by Magpie Girl, High Voltage, and theTrendyDwarf. Ch-ch-check 'em out! Not only do they have amazing blogs, but they're super supportive of mine. Thanks for the tags / awards you guys! :) There were two different tags where I'm supposed to share 7 things about me and 10 things that create my style. Since I am lazy - ahem - a busy girl with little time on my hand (haha), I am going to combine them and share 10 things about me and then post some style snidbits. It's a genius compromise, I know.

Combo Tag/ Award

7 - ahem - 10 Things About Me:
1. I watched Arthur way past the due-date of normalcy. But whatever, Arthur's da man.
2. I also played with dolls for way too long. Bratz was my last obsession, before finally graduating at the tender age of @#$%^& - way-too-old-to-be-playing-with-them.
3. My heart shaped glasses broke. I'm a little saddened by this news.
4. I'm an obsessive doodler. Obsessive. My greatest doodles are probably from science class, my least favourite class in the history of school.
5. I joined the wrestling team. I was one of two girls. I broke my collarbone after two weeks and therefore had to quit. I think I'll stick to volleyball next year.
6. I eat marshmallows and cookies a little too much.
7. Guilty pleasure = TLC shows. My current favourites are Cake Boss, LA Ink, and Say Yes to the Dress. I also love their documentaries. They are so fascinating and humbling. I really do love TLC.
8. I kind of like to pretend that Nylon is the epitome of who I am. Just because it's so darn cool.
9. I kind of live in my own ideal world. Where everyone dresses in vintage, listens to indie bands, and skips around instead of walking.
10. I wish Canada had an Obama-equivalent. Maybe an Asian-chick. She and Obama would make a good team, I think.

Style Snidbits:

1. Love the Olsen twins. Always have, always will.

2. Love the bright colours, shapes, and energy of the 80s. And now it's back in style!

Balmain Fall 2009

3. I actually think that being super cheap has totally helped to define my style. Favourite stores? Value Village, Vintage/Thrift, Winners, and H&M.

4. I like to read tabloids to look at red carpet photos. Some of my favourite red-carpet dressers are Rihanna, Charlize Theron, and Leighton Meester.

5. I dress to express myself. A lot of times it depends on my mood. If I'm feeling..
.. excited

.. rocker-y

.. cutsey

... dowdy

* Um, I am a major dork. Taking photobooth pictures of myself, by myself. Please ignore. I spent a whole five minutes taking them and thus do not want to not use them. I feel like I will regret this.

I kind of feel bad that my post is solely about myself and things that you readers don't really care about, so here's a really crappy photobooth picture of my new leggings. They are so amazing and the terrible quality does not do them justice. My $20 splurge on them was totally worth it. I promise to post better pictures soon.

(Urban Outfitters $20)

Anyways, I promise for a post you actually care about as soon as I return. I will attempt to take more pictures. Thanks for the awards guys, once again! :) And thanks for all your comments! I'm so happy to finally have a break from babysitting my little cousins so I can finally check out all your blogs! :) Come again and see you soon.

Ciao!
