one suit, two suit

Maybe it's because I'm a blogger, maybe it's because I'm a wizard... Nonetheless, I seem to have an uncanny ability to categorize all my clothing and include a snazzy backstory about each piece I own: i.e. the place of origin, the price, the hardships encountered whilst undergoing such a journey. Each thing has a story and I have no life.

Once upon a time, I went to a snazzy consignment store in Calgary. I saw this jumpsuit. I thought, "Hey! It's like a custodian's outfit! But in pink! [hysterical laughter] I'll try it on! As a joke! We'll have a bonding moment, a good time!" Long story short, Hi, pink-custodian-jumpsuit-come-to-mammaaaa. The end.

The great thing about this jumpsuit is that it REALLY makes you think about the most important things in life. i.e. do I REALLY need to pee or can I contract my bladder and hold it in? Life-changing, earth-shattering, world-altering stuff, I tell ya!

Me and the weather kind of have a... thing. There. I said it. The rumours are true. We flirt with each other. I dress up for him. He sends some sunshine. But let me tell you, the weather is a tease! He winks a blue sky, then he vomits gray. Playing hard to get, eh? How can I say no? I can't. I just wear bright colours in hopes of *siiiigh* reciprocated happiness. In other words, SUN PLEASE COME OUT YOU ANNOYING TWIRP. I miss my bike.

"Fashion is what you adopt when you don't know who you are"
- Quentin Crisp

I recently heard this quote and it's really resonated with me. I immediately thought, "that's so true." It's hard to describe, but fashion does give me comfort and confidence and purpose. It gives me a sense of belonging. But, do I turn to it because I don't know who I am?

Not that I'm completely lost. But yeah. Some days I wake up feeling completely lost. The play I've been designing costumes for has just finished and I'm DONE all my portfolios! Finito! Bam! Wut! While I feel very relieved, there's also a sense of emptiness. My world revolves around making things and biking in the sunshine. I don't want to spend my days in front of a computer, regurgitating information that humanists said hundreds of years ago, or punching pointless numbers in my calculator to find out the sinusoidal regression of an irrelevant and unrealistic math problem.

I think fashion has helped me define who I am. But... when I look at it all, do I know who I am? No. I think I have an idea of how I want to be perceived, or who I want to be. But WHO AM I? What do I really want? I'm learning. Is that all fashion really is? A facade? An image? In someways, yes. Fashion is a personification of who I want to be, or who I want to appear to be. But I think that there's more. Fashion is an extension of oneself; it shouldn't define you, but it should certainly say something about you. And when you're a little lost, when you're questioning the world... you really do need something to ground you, to make you happy, to give you comfort. For me, it's fashion. I like when people smile at my clothes (by "smile," I mean "make fun of"). I like feeling happy in bright colours and prints. I like clonkin' around town, telepathically (yes) telling people: "Be who you are! Wear what you want! Life's too short to give a crap!"

"I'm just a little girl lost in the moment, I'm so scared but I don't show it" - Lenka. I can't even fathom where I'll be in a year. Not a clue. Who will I be? What will I be dreaming? Creating? Craving? It's scary, absolutely. But I can't take it too seriously. Life is about the journey, the evolution and fuck it, I'm going to wear ridiculous custodian-esque pink jumpsuits when I go on the ride!

So, if you read all that, can we please make cocoons together and transform into butterflies when spring arises? Or you know, we could just muse on fashion and life together and here you go! Opportunity! Bam!
What does fashion mean to you?

My eyes are feeling very droopy as I type this. Like I'm an old woman, but instead of saggy boobies, I have saggy eyes. Pleasant picture painted in your head? You're welcome. (Disclaimer: I actually love old people.) So yeah. I think I'm going to take a nap before I start rambling on the youth of today and politics and being an old geezer and what not.

This is what I wore to Valentine's Day. That detail is insignificant as my Valentineseyness is lacking. Psh. Go love! Woot, woot *insert cheesy piknik-esque photo with black and white editing and maybe a picture of the biebz xxx*

Oh, and here's an interesting video just for kicks. I've been thinking about the education system and learning and so forth for awhile. I don't know. Sometimes I think that we're doing it all wrong.

Opening night was tonight! Solid. This has been the busiest week, ever. I'm going to hibernate this weekend. Slash RIGHT THIS SECOND. Bear-y exciting. (GET IT BEAR BECAUSE BEARS HIBERNATE YA THEY DO HAH I AM WITTY HAH I AM GOING TO SLEEP NOW)

What do you think of the education system? What's it like in your country? (I always forget that I have an amazing hub of international readers... Wheddup, worldwide party time?!)

let's just fly

Hello, rabbits and lemurs! Wait, wuuut?! You're not rabbits and lemurs? Totally thought you were! Lolz, I'm kidding. I'm just being cheeky and hilarious and making you all furrow your brows and drop your chompers! Of course you're not rabbits and lemurs! You're my beloved readers! My beloved readers whom will forgive me for leaving hardy spaces between posting and responding to comments (ah, I KNOW I'M SORRY I WILL UTTER MY GREAT WORDS ON YOUR POSTS SHORTLY)!

I've been super busy lately: the play I'm designing costumes for is this week (yowza!), so I've been consumed in sewing and snipping. Plus, I have a portfolio review/interview this week, eeks. So, in conclusion, here are some filler photos. And by "filler," I mean, "yeah, they kind of are fillers until my outfit post pops up, but please enjoy them! They're my illustrations based off the costumes I'm doing for the Comedy of Errors. They've also been made into posters, but I'm apprehensive of posting them because you OBVIOUSLY all love me so much (?) that you'd fly over here and stalk me and murder me and if I watched Dexter, there'd probably be a reference right here. Bam."

So yeah. Enjoy...

Let's play a game! Right now, I really want spring: I'm longing for the sunshine and bike rides and blue skies... It's a little pathetic. It's currently "ah, a snowstorm is supposed to come tonight" weather, but the sky was blue. Therefore, I whooped a little! I sometimes wish that the weather would vary day-to-day. Yes, it would be super annoying in terms of planning picnics with stuffed animals or snowshoeing with Santa but, ultimately, it would make days a little more spontaneous and exciting. So yeah. Your turn! What's your thought RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND?

roses are red, violets are blue, i'm neutral about valentine's day, but i love my new shoes!

I know I've only known you for a week... but what can I say? I'm smitten. I have to admit, when I first saw you, I rolled my eyes a little. I chuckled a little. You were bizarre, you stood out... I couldn't help but make fun of you. But hey! Unlike the others, walking by you, ignoring you, I had decency. I gave you a chance. I got to know you. And look at us now. Together. A future.

Baby, it's been seven days. I only bought you because you were 50% off and fairly entertaining to stare at. You were fat and I gave you a chance as jokes. But I'm so glad I did. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me (not really). I hope we have a long future together.

Do I dare utter the words? Those forbidden, dangerous words? I love you.

I hope you all have a marvelous Valentine's Day. Whether you're blinking your eyelashes at a boytoy or writing deep love letters to, uh, inanimate objects, I hope your day is filled with love and chocolate and generic cards with creepy looking animals . Or, you know, it's just like any other day with a bit of pink and barf-inducing sights evolved from the consumerism of today's society. You know, whatever floats your chocolate fountain (hah. chocolate and, therefore, valentine's reference).

Describe your dream luvuhhhh. (that's slang for "lover." lolsneaky.)

Festive outfit post soon! (by "festive," I mean, "yes, I did wear yellow tights and clonky shoes today for Valentine's day so, you know, don't get too hyped up on wishful cupcake attire")

you're a dawl

Blah, blah, blah. Yes, those three words are significant. No, it's not to tune out this overly-loud opera that my mom feels the need to blast. (hi mumzies wtf) Nor is it to let out my inner Ke$ha. Rather, it epitomizes my current state of you know when you have a lot of things on your mind, but it's simply too exhausting/blah to say it all? Yeah. "Blah, blah, blah" will now officially SAY IT ALL. You heard it here first, folks!

This outfit could be labeled something along the lines of "clothes resurrected from the death of my closet mwahaha." Kind of like a "blast from the past," but in clothing form. I don't know when was the last time I wore this dress, but I'm thinking it was somewhere along the lines of here and ohhaiitheremajorstyleslashbloggingslashwritingchange. I don't know when I last wore this shirt, either. I'm thinking it's been at least 4 years. I've never worn this skirt. These tights haven't seen the light of day in a good 8 months. HI THERE LOST CLOTHING WELCOME TO THE WORLD. SORRY FOR NEGLECTING YOUR EXISTENCE.

I think I've reached that "point in my life" where GODDAMNIT I NEED TO GO ON A BUYING HIATUS. February seems like a good month, right? Throwing on layers of lost clothing during winter months? It's only 28 days so gurl I can deal? WRONG. It's not my fault that the day better than Christmas and my birthday (but not Halloween. never Halloween) planted itself on the 7th of February. Yes, what else could I be talking about? Nothing. But the VALUE VILLAGE 50% off sale. Throw a party! They were dressed like cowboys wtf! Duh.

Har, har, har. Blah, blah, blah. HAR LOOK AT THE BEGINNING. It's like a legend! So yes, I'm feeling a little blahimon5hoursofsleep so I'll just post a list of things that I've been swimming in my head drums recently. Feel free to give your 2 cents on anything because you're all fascinating creatures.
Thoughts Swimming in my Head Drums:
- the power of religion/ existence of gods/ other forces
- holy crap, what if I went blind one day?!
- we're very insignificant as individual beings. especially realized as I study history and wuuut, this people DID once exist/live in the present/ har har
- education system -- is this REALLY the best way for learning and gaining knowledge?
- immigrants are very interesting people
- the ridiculous disparity in opportunity between developed and developing countries
- my new found obsession with opening up a cafe in Antigua, Guatemala or some other city similar to that
- my increase in happiness due to hi there, it's not dark out when I go home! (but I still miss my bike rides/ ability to outside in less than an elephant's weight of attire)
- the amount of disconnectedness amongst people and does the internet make us more connected or disconnected?
- i really don't want to go to semi tonight ew
Huh. I actually feel better now that that's all out there. Maybe more "blah blah" than "blah blah blah." BREAK THROUGH BABY.

What thoughts are currently swimming in YOUR head drums?

Am I saying that too much? NO. It's going to be a common phrase. An every dayer, if you will. And when they trace it's etymology it will go to BAM RIGHT HERE. Hi there, future phrase-tracing-back-it's-ancestors people. That's right. The phrase "thought swimming in my/ your head drums" originated there. Also, I'm basically Raven Baxter.

Hey guys! Did you see all those pictures? Guess what I'm currently working on? My prom dress! I know it's a little early, but I want to have at least eighty-five bow ties and an endless sea of cotton ruffles and --

[We interrupt this program to tell you that Lexy is currently rolling on the floor laughing out loud [ROTFLOL]]

Kidding! Can you imagine? A colourful, ruffly, obnoxious prom dress? Pffft, that'd be so -- oh, wait. You probably can imagine that. Um. Awkward pause as you secretly (and easily) picture Lexy in an oompa loompa prom dress. Um. Awkkkkward... (Edit. Note: These photos really AREN'T of my prom dress in progress - it's a sneak peek of the costumes. (read below) LOLZ.)

ANWYAYS. I am currently the CAWSTOOM DEZINER (sound it out, kids) for my school play! Yay. Comedy of Errors. Shakespeare. What? Fashion + Shakespeare? I know, this baffled my mind, too. But at last, costumes are actually, like, cool. Like, yeah.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The play is only a few weeks away, which is very daunting. We're working our way there. Here's a sneak peek of one of the costumes, the Duke of Ephesus. My sister isn't dramatic enough to be in the play so I forced, AHEM, she voluntarily dressed up. I also made her wear the costume for this 10 feet guy (by "10 feet" I mean "6 feet"). It was hilarious.

An illustration I did for fun to accompany this piece. Somehow, it led to me doing six more for the posters. By tomorrow. Eeek.

Busy, busy! Fun stuff! Hot stuff! Smooch! (I'm picturing those little Valentine cards you used to get in your youth from your classmates. (When you were given a class list of everyone's name and it was basically the equivalent of committing murder if you didn't send a Valentine to everyone.) In retrospect, I'm not sure "Love ya sweetie, mwah!" generic cards were entirely appropriate for, you know, the entire class. But I'm sure we didn't know what that even means. Love ya sweetie? Happy Valentine's day? Psh, SAMETHINGIWANTCANDY)

Anyways. Adieu!

When was the last time you cried from joy? Aw.

P.S. I finally got myself (reactivated) a tumblr. Let's be Tunds! (Tumblr+ friends = Tunds.) (Uh. Just follow me and make me feel worthy yeah yeah.)

(EDIT: the ridiculously colourful pictures above ARE NOT MY PROM DRESS. I don't have one (I'm too hipster). yayayay. Damn my attempts at being "funny." I will now resort to being a humorless fashion drone, amen.)

I had a lot of fun wearing this outfit. The sun was all shiny and happy and insert cheesy sunny-related quotes. Consequentially, it was a definite cause for some celebratory "Spring is almost here" attire! (Which is evidently a far stretch from the truth. Hello, >life-size snow banks. Hello, blowing winds. Hello, Canada.)

It's certainly fun to stack accessories. I've gotten emails asking about easing into colours and that's what I would say: If you're not in the mood to make people vomit rainbows and poop more rainbows (awesome visual), simply wear some good old fashion obnoxiously large/ridiculous/colourful accessories. Maybe some colourful tights for good measure. Also, just HAVE FUN WITH FASHION. Like the rest of life, it's nothing to take too seriously. You meet people that are just continuously complaining and frowning and it's like, Hey kid! Wear a hideously fluorescent orange blazer once in a while! Just for the hell of it!

Oh, and in case you were deceived by these, er, "artsy photos" taken outside of my garage to, um, "juxtapose grunge aspects with prep" (the quotes are to signify my "je ne sais quoi" and evident "artsyness" with my "abstract concepts"), HI THERE. Snow exists. Don't be deceived by the allusions of Spring.

I've been feeling really ridiculously optimistic this past while. I'm crazy busy, but I'm happy. My life is definitely not perfect, but it's like, hey, don't stress it. There's so many little things I worry about but, in the big picture: there's 7 billion+ people in this world, there's been billions before me, billions after me, HI THERE I'M INSIGNIFICANT. My problems are hardly problems and I'm one insanely lucky chicka. No, I don't ever say "chicka." (Although that, oddly enough, reminds me of my childhood favourite Chickadee. I secretly only subscribed because I deemed the jokes "hilarious," i.e. that was the only section I read. Hey now, I didn't grow up in an internet era where jokes were at my disposal - I had to werrrk for it!) (i.e. force my parents to pay for my monthly subscription to said magazine.)

Stay wonderful and smile at strangers!
I dare you all to wear five colours in ONE outfit this week.
Get yourself out of the winter bum. And make me feel good about myself for, ahem, "inspiring you." And then POST YOUR OUTFIT. It would legitimately make my long winter days. xx
Also, how do you picture your funeral?
(colours and funerals go... hand in hand? I don't know. I've been thinking about this recently, and I'm hoping funeral-thoughts are just one of those "things" that everyone secretly thinks about. PLEASE PRETEND.)

Made from plastic and plastic. Holllaaaa.

I miss doing DIY projects. It's fun to grab crap and make more crap and never wear the crap because you justify that it's simply crap. Hello, plastic necklace. Anyways, I made this over the Christmas Break. That was awhile ago. I'm sorry. But hey, it's like a delayed reaction! Which is supposed to sound, um, cool and enticing. I mean, obviously it is. Cool and enticing, that is. Cool! Enticing! Yay!

I'm working on some illustrations for fun, which is nice. I always have a handful of little projects that I want to accomplish, but somehow life (ie sleeping on a snow day) (YES IT'S A SNOW DAY!) prevails. Hopefully I won't have too much work this weekend so I can spend time just bumming around creating crap. That's my favourite.

I also have a cool project to post. I will do that. ZOMG, stay tuned! Teletoons! That 1) had no significance, 2) *most importantly* rhymed!

What's your favourite colour and what does that say about you?

(I'm stealing this from my grade 3 journal? Pft, not at all...)
